macOSOfficial Mac minimum: Sonoma 14.4.1, Intel Core i5-10600, 16 GB RAM, Radeon Pro 5300 4 GB and 10 GB; recommended Sequoia 15.4, Apple M3 with 10-core M3 GPU and 16 GB.
Apple SiliconApple M3 with a 10-core M3 GPU is the explicit official recommendation; M1/M2 are not given a separate tier.
Intel MacCompatible
Why we recommend it

Recommended for industrial economics, pop politics, trade supply chains and nineteenth-century statecraft. Compare Crusader Kings III for dynasties or Hearts of Iron IV for World War II force design. Prioritize 16 GB on Mac; Intel should meet i5-10600/Radeon Pro 5300, while the official M3 recommendation is the safest Apple-silicon baseline. Workflow: reserve 20 GB; back up saves/launcher/mods; record 1.13.9, b2e3 and SHA-256; run a small mod-free nation; test market/construction/supply/navy; copy the long campaign; restore DLC/mods individually; test multiplayer with identical checksum. On M1/M2, lower speed/graphics and validate a short game before a century-long campaign.

Pros

  • Its economic simulation links pop occupation, income, consumption and politics back into industry, taxation, laws and government. Raw materials, factories, trade routes, market prices and infrastructure form an observable supply chain, making industrial choices consequential. Diplomatic plays, interest groups, reform, colonization and war distinguish national paths across 1836–1936. Pausable real time, dense tooltips, custom rules and mods create high replayability. Official Mac specifications clearly separate an Intel minimum and Apple M3 recommendation; English, Simplified Chinese, Japanese and Korean interfaces are supported.

Cons

  • Sixteen GB is the minimum rather than comfortable headroom, and late-game pops, markets and wars still slow simulation; the Intel floor is also relatively new hardware. Only M3 is explicitly named for Apple silicon, with no separate M1/M2 tier. Dense economic, legal, interest-group, diplomatic and military terminology can trap newcomers in price loops or infrastructure deficits. Paid DLC contains substantial country/mechanic content, while updates change mod/save checksums. Nearly 200 changes make older guides unreliable, and the developer states some new 1.13.9 text is temporarily English-only. Traditional Chinese is not official.

Installation steps

  1. This page covers Victoria 3 1.13.9 with official checksum b2e3. Mac minimum is macOS Sonoma 14.4.1, Intel Core i5-10600, 16 GB RAM, Radeon Pro 5300 4 GB and 10 GB storage; recommended is Sequoia 15.4, Apple M3 with 10-core M3 GPU and 16 GB. Reserve 20 GB, then back up saves, launcher database, DLC, mod playsets/order and custom game rules, and record installer SHA-256. First disable mods and use a new game to test markets, construction queue, trade, pops, laws, diplomatic plays, armies/navies, supply and save/load. Restore mods individually only after confirming 1.13.9/b2e3. M1/M2 are below the named M3 recommendation and should not be treated as equivalent.

Uninstallation steps

  1. Before uninstalling, avoid an active diplomatic play, war resolution, split-state annexation or major construction-queue change; create a new manual save and quit normally. Back up local/cloud saves, launcher database, DLC, exact mod versions/order and rules. Label 1.13.9, b2e3, country, date, market, war state and SHA-256, then test one offline load. Preserve both sides of a cloud conflict. After reinstalling, confirm 1.13.9/b2e3 in a mod-free new game, restore identical DLC/mods and copy the old save. If it fails, preserve the original and isolate mods one at a time instead of overwriting repeatedly.

Common errors and fixes

  1. Blank launcher or wrong checksum: verify Sonoma 14.4.1, space and SHA-256, preserve then rebuild launcher cache/database, and confirm 1.13.9/b2e3 without mods. null_obj in construction: this patch fixes the case created when a foreign-invested split state is annexed; verify mods if it persists. Sudden army supply loss: 1.13.9 corrects mobilized-conscript supplies and adds shortage icons/breakdowns. Fleets stuck as in battle, strait-blocked supply routes and AI naval invasions overflowing transport are also fixed. Late-game speed: official notes cite about 7–10% lower memory, 15% fewer allocations and tick improvements, but large pop/market counts remain CPU-heavy. Close background apps and preserve 16 GB. Test M1/M2 or Intel below Radeon Pro 5300 conservatively.

What changed in this version

  1. Version 1.13.9 (checksum b2e3) is a large official 1.13-line hotfix with nearly 200 fixes, improvements and balance changes. It adds search bars including the tech tree, automatic fleet return/repair/resume and diplomatic plays over straits; reworks command limit, law-enactment speed and ship critical hits; and clarifies army supply/fleet missions. Memory drops about 7–10%, allocations 15%, with tick-speed improvements. Naval transport, strait routing, conscript supply, privateering trade, construction null_obj and many content/UI faults are fixed. Some newly changed text remains English-only in this build, an official 1.13.9 limitation.
