Use: read-only references; low-resolution composition; lock canvas size; separate ink/color/shadow/texture; test wet watercolor in a small area; export milestones every 20–30 minutes; deliver PSD plus transparent and paper-background PNG; round-trip elsewhere; archive locally and on a second medium. Restore/buy Mac Pro before a long project to avoid discovering layer/PSD limits midstream. Compare Artstudio Pro for deeper brushes/selections across iPad/Mac, Photoshop/Affinity Photo for photo-illustration compositing, Pixelmator Pro for native Mac visuals, and Corel Painter for traditional-media depth. Test a two-layer file before cross-device work; never assume purchase/sync parity.

- A lean interface and paper-like brushes make wet watercolor flow/mixing, acrylic, pastel, Indian Ink and Stipple effective for sketching and light illustration. Preview, eyedropper, Color Mix, gradient, symmetry and straight lines produce results with a low learning curve. Mac pressure input, native Apple silicon direction and Intel support are useful. Pro adds unlimited layers and layered PSD for finishing in Photoshop/Affinity; transparent PNG, photo import, drag-and-drop and cloud/file export cover sharing. The focused toolset avoids panel overload. The developer permits users to use their own creations freely, fitting classroom sketches, travel drawing, storyboard concepts, social illustrations and watercolor practice.
Cons
- Core production features are paywalled: layers, layered PSD and some media need Pro/subscription. The store lists one-time and weekly/monthly/yearly products, so verify regional entitlement. Mac, iOS and Android are separate apps/purchases with unequal features; do not assume iPad rotation, full rulers, tutorials or Cloud Sync behavior applies to Mac. PSD is interchange, and wet watercolor, paper texture, special brushes and blends may rasterize. It lacks Photoshop/Artstudio Pro depth in selections, color management, adjustment layers, plug-ins, scripts and prepress. Large canvases, layers and wet media can consume memory; despite stability updates, export milestones frequently. Canvas sizing, replay, typography and complex transforms are light. Professional comics, animation, vector and batch assets need specialist tools.
Installation steps
- Tayasui Sketches 6.8 requires macOS 12+ and supports Intel and Apple silicon through the Mac App Store. Confirm the purchase model: Mac, iOS and Android are separate apps/purchases, and Mac Pro rights restore only on Mac. Free and Pro differ in layers, wet watercolor, patterns, Cutter, Smudge, Ruler and layered PSD export. With a pressure stylus, test light/heavy pressure, tilt, stroke ends, fast lines, straight ruler and eraser using one brush; hold Control to expose the Mac Brush Editor. Set canvas/paper before production and separate sketch, ink, base color, shadow, texture and highlights. Calibrate wet watercolor/acrylic mixing on a small copy. At each milestone keep the native project, layered PSD and flattened PNG, then round-trip layers, alpha, blends and dimensions in Photoshop/Affinity. Do not rely only on autosave state or cloud.
Uninstallation steps
- Before uninstalling, open every important drawing, retain its native project and export layered PSD with Pro; also create transparent PNG and paper-background PNG/JPEG references. Reopen PSD and inspect layer order/names/visibility, alpha, blends, text/imported images, crop and pixel size. Wet watercolor, paper texture and some brushes may survive elsewhere only as raster results. Copy drawings, PSD, PNG, palettes, references, brush-setting screenshots and font information to a second medium. Even with Cloud Sync, make local exports: official guidance says iCloud can back up drawings, but Mac/iOS/Android apps, purchases and feature sets differ, so seamless cross-platform restoration is unsafe to assume. Test files on another Mac/account before canceling subscription or removing the app.
Common errors and fixes
- No pressure/constant width: verify tablet driver and pressure in another app, reconnect it and choose a pressure-aware brush. The trackpad can act as a pad with fn but is not equivalent to a stylus. Hold Control for the Mac Brush Editor; eyedropper/palette also use shortcuts. Locked layers/PSD/wet watercolor usually mean the correct Mac Pro entitlement is not restored: iOS Pro does not restore on Mac, and Free+IAP versus separate Pro app receipts differ. Missing cloud work: verify the same iCloud account, Cloud Sync and capacity; stop simultaneous editing and export local copies. PSD may rasterize paper, wet watercolor, texture and blends, so compare with PNG. For transparency, select Transparent background or hide the paper layer before PNG export. Reduce canvas/layers for lag or crashes. Version 6.8 is a stability release without a detailed fix list. Mac lacks some iOS orientation/ruler features by design.
What changed in this version
- The official 6.8 note says only “bug fixing and stability improvements”; it does not list a new brush, format or workflow, so this is not a feature release. It carries forward 20+ realistic tools, pressure stylus support, wet watercolor, acrylic, oil pastel/pastel, Indian Ink, Stipple, airbrush, patterns, gradients, Color Mix, Smart Brush Editor, eyedropper, straight/symmetry controls, layers, photo import and PSD/PNG export. The 6.2 generation brought Big Sur/M1 adaptation, a revised UI, Color Eraser, straight ruler, Indian Ink, Stipple and pattern drawing. Version 6.5 fixed Cutter, while 6.6/6.7 were stability maintenance. The value of 6.8 is continued reliability work rather than a document-format change.
