Use: confirm original/licensed source; clean bitmap; trace with limited colors; retain source layer; manually repair paths/holes; run Offset/Expand/Simplify on duplicates; check monochrome, small-size and pixel preview; branch RGB/CMYK; validate SVG/PDF/PNG; archive amdc, optional amdn, source and manifest. For logos, build monochrome, grid and minimum-size versions before color/texture variants and conduct trademark clearance after tracing. Use SVG/PNG plus browser tests for screens and PDF with printer ICC/preflight for print; do not depend on EPS. Compare Affinity Designer/Illustrator for mature professional vectors, Boxy SVG for code-oriented SVG, Sketch for product UI/components and EazyDraw for technical drawing. Image Tracing converts sketches, monochrome marks and photo shapes into editable paths, while transparent sheets directly serve icons/overlays. RGB/CMYK and custom ICC cover web and print better than screen-only lightweight tools; SVG/PDF plus PNG/TIFF/JPEG support vector/raster delivery. Similar Mac/iPad/iPhone capabilities let Apple Pencil/touch start ideas and Mac refine them; compressed amdc works with third-party cloud storage. Native Apple-silicon and Intel support, lifetime/subscription options and free editing lower evaluation friction. Its approachable interface suits creators moving from bitmap design toward vector paths.
Cons
- It is not full DTP, long text flow, professional type design, photo editing or a large design-system/multiuser platform; long documents, numbering, data merge and component governance need other tools. Image Tracing is only a starting point: low-quality sources, photographic gradients, small text and textures create too many nodes and inaccurate contours and still need redraw; tracing does not grant copyright. CMYK/ICC is not complete prepress—spot colors, trapping, PDF/X, overprint and printer preflight need specialist workflows. Loss of EPS on Sonoma+ affects legacy print/library pipelines and requires PDF/SVG migration. amdc/amdn are proprietary editable formats, so interchange/archive need open exports. Mac/iOS fonts, filesystems, purchase channels and input differ; an opening file does not prove identical results or entitlement. Image Stocks introduce network, licensing, attribution and privacy concerns. Cross-app Eyedropper needs Screen Recording, which sensitive environments should enable only temporarily. Plugins/automation, complex effects and industry interchange are smaller than Illustrator/Affinity Designer.
Installation steps
- Amadine 1.8.3 requires macOS 11+, supports Intel and Apple silicon, and needs about 150 MB base space plus project storage. Identify developer-store versus Mac App Store licensing and restore the matching lifetime/subscription entitlement; the unlicensed app edits but disables export, printing and Image Tracing. Before design, choose RGB or CMYK, working ICC, sheet size, units, transparent/regular background and pixel grid. Obtain the printer’s CMYK profile for print; keep web/UI work RGB/sRGB. Use copies containing transparent PNG, low/high-resolution photos, monochrome logos, gradients, complex curves, text, clipping masks and multiple sheets to test Image Tracing, Offset Path, Expand, Simplify, Fusion and SVG/PDF export. Crop, denoise and increase contrast before tracing while retaining the source; then compare node count, contour error, holes and small text—automatic tracing is not a final logo. The Eyedropper requests Screen Recording only to sample other apps; grant temporarily when needed and revoke afterward.
Uninstallation steps
- Before removal, preserve every important project as current compressed amdc and, if downstream compatibility needs it, legacy amdn; also export SVG, PDF, PNG/TIFF/JPEG. EPS is unsupported on macOS 14 Sonoma and later and must not be the sole exchange/archive. Record every sheet’s size, background transparency, RGB/CMYK, ICC, bleed, font names/versions/licenses, linked/embedded images, tracing settings, Offset/Expand/Simplify values, export options and SHA-256. Package custom shapes/libraries, palettes, textures, images and original traced bitmaps. Stock assets need source, license and retrieval date. For Mac/iPad/iPhone workflows, open projects on both platforms and compare amdc/amdn, fonts, transparent sheets, gradients and clipping masks; file sync does not prove feature licensing across platforms. Open independent SVG/PDF in another app. Revoke Screen Recording if no longer needed and back up containers/Application Support before deletion to preserve custom libraries and recent projects.
Common errors and fixes
- Noisy/over-noded Image Tracing: denoise, remove background, improve edge contrast/resolution, then tune threshold/color count. Simplify in small steps against the source—fewer points do not guarantee accurate contours. 1.8.3 reports original/result point counts more accurately but still needs visual review. Broken Offset Path corners require repairing open paths, duplicate nodes, self-intersections and tiny fragments; inspect joins/caps at output scale and manually clean expanded complex results. 1.8.3 fixes radial gradients displayed incorrectly after reopen; duplicate legacy files, reopen/compare and verify custom ICC/coordinates. If a transparent sheet exports opaque, inspect sheet background, export format and bottom fills; JPEG has no alpha, so use PNG/TIFF/SVG. For Eyedropper sampling outside Amadine, grant Screen Recording and relaunch; inside-window sampling needs no permission. CMYK shifts require embedded/conversion ICC, transparency and target PDF checks, not screen judgment alone. EPS is unavailable on Sonoma+; use PDF/SVG. Font instability requires identical versions, CJK fallback checks, an outlined duplicate and editable source.
What changed in this version
- Official 1.8.3 features are transparent sheets (alongside regular backgrounds, with editable background color) and bitmap Image Tracing. Improvements/fixes cover Offset Path, Expand, more accurate original/result point counts in Simplify, radial gradients displayed incorrectly after reopening, other fixes, plus an iOS stroke-width crash. The update raises minimums to macOS 11 and iOS/iPadOS 15. The Mac build is 410 and supports Intel and Apple silicon. Amadine supports RGB/CMYK with system/custom ICC, compressed amdc and legacy amdn, and SVG, PDF, TIFF, PNG and JPEG output. The official manual states EPS is unsupported on macOS 14 Sonoma and later. Unlicensed copies disable export, print and Image Tracing, so edit capability is not the same as free completion of deliverables.
