Editor-checked details
Recommended for players who enjoy designing large historical battles, want both shooting and command, and accept unit/mod tuning. Do not start at 1000 units: calibrate shooting, AI orders and construction with 50–100, then increase by 100–200 while watching frame rate and command latency. Safe order: backup; 1.01/SHA-256; OS/RAM; language/resolution; ADS/bindings; small battle; AI/build/artillery; save; scale up; Workshop.
Pros
- It switches between first-person combat, overhead RTS command and battle simulation. Infantry, cavalry, tanks, aircraft, artillery, procedural cover and 1000+ units create unusual scale. Players can fight directly, issue orders, build defenses and schedule fire support. Full Workshop and level-editor support spans maps, units, vehicles, weapons and buildables, extending longevity. Simplified/Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean interfaces, 20 achievements and Family Sharing are supported.
Cons
- “Highly optimized” does not guarantee 1000-unit stability on every Mac: AI, physics, artillery and rendering pressure CPU, GPU and memory together, and 16 GB is recommended. FPS, RTS, building and editing create a dense interface and binding curve. Large AI battles can still show pathing, command delay and congestion, while Workshop content adds version/resource conflicts. Requirements list Intel HD without promising native Apple silicon; M1–M4 need Rosetta 2 and scale testing. War violence and ragdolls are not for everyone.
Installation steps
- This page covers channel version 1.01. Official Mac minimums are macOS Sierra, 2.7 GHz CPU, 8 GB RAM, Intel HD graphics and 5 GB storage, with 16 GB RAM recommended; the Steam client practically needs a newer supported macOS. Back up saves, bindings, maps and Workshop content and record SHA-256. Start with a small new battle and verify language, resolution, ADS sensitivity, binding autosave, first-person combat, overhead command, AI commander, artillery, building and reload before scaling to hundreds or 1000+ units. M1–M4 may rely on Rosetta 2 and require unit-count performance checks.
Uninstallation steps
- Before uninstalling, end the battle and return to menu, waiting for map, binding, Workshop and Steam Cloud writes; do not force-quit while spawning armies, saving a custom map or updating subscriptions. Back up battles/maps, build setup, bindings, Workshop list, 1.01 and SHA-256. After reinstalling, use a copy to complete a small battle, issue an AI order, build and save/reload, then restore mods one at a time to isolate conflicts.
Common errors and fixes
- If language or resolution cannot be changed, confirm 1.01; this build specifically fixes the issue on some aspect ratios. Reset to a default windowed resolution and restart if needed. For an idle AI commander, likewise verify 1.01, cancel and issue one simple move/attack order. Bindings should autosave; lost settings indicate permission or Cloud conflict. Tune the new ADS sensitivity separately. For large-battle stutter, reduce unit count, ragdolls, artillery, aircraft and draw distance progressively instead of judging hardware at 1000+ units. Disable all Workshop subscriptions to isolate mod trouble. Apple silicon may use Rosetta 2; watch fanless thermals.
What changed in this version
- Official 1.01: fixed inability to change language or resolution on some aspect ratios; fixed the AI commander sometimes not working (marked a major fix); added an aim-down-sights sensitivity slider; made bindings autosave; and slightly reduced weapon recoil. Test several aspect ratios, language switching, AI orders, ADS response, bindings after restart and rifle recoil. The recorded macOS 64-bit depot received this build.
