size
• Choose between a coloured or transparent background
• Modify the start and end colours of the background gradient
• Modify the corner curvature of the background
• Modify the
size
and colour of the background border
• Modify the offset, colour, angle and blur intensity of the background shadow
Icon
• Select the image that will be placed in the center of the icon
• Modify the vertical and horizontal offset of the image
• Choose between a flat or coloured icon design
• Modify the colour, scale and rotation of the icon image
• Modify the offset, colour, angle and blur intensity of the image shadow
Text
• Enter the text that you want to appear on the logo/icon

Editor-checked details
Recommended for independent developers making prototypes, internal tools, test builds and simple product icon sets—not as the sole workflow for a complex brand. Workflow: build a clean silhouette in a vector tool; export an sRGB master at least 1024px; set platform background, padding and shadow in Icon Plus; avoid text/fine lines at small sizes; save a profile; export each platform set; import into target Xcode Assets.xcassets; inspect slots, alpha, rounding/padding and light/dark contexts; test on device, Dock, Spotlight and the smallest size; Archive/Validate; retain vector master, profile, exports, Assets.xcassets, manifest and SHA-256. Use IconJar/Iconize for asset management, Logoist/Illustrator/Affinity Designer for fuller vector branding, or Image2icon for image-to-ICNS work.
Pros
- Its interface concentrates on background, centre image, text and output, so non-specialists can produce simple icons or placeholder brand graphics quickly. Canvas, solid/gradient/transparent background, corners, border and multiple shadows combine with live controls; the centre image can scale, rotate, tint and offset, while text supports font, stroke and shadow. One export creates iOS, watchOS or macOS size sets, with custom dimensions/names and many bitmap formats, reducing manual resizing. Version 1.5 runs natively on Intel and Apple silicon with macOS 10.13 minimum. Processing is local and the official privacy label says no data is collected.
Cons
- It is a parametric bitmap compositor and size generator, not vector drawing or a full brand-system tool; there is no path editing, Boolean geometry, grids, components, design tokens or team collaboration. Complex logos, precise typography and multi-state icons still need Illustrator, Affinity Designer, Sketch/Figma or similar. Automatic sets cannot guarantee future Xcode/App Store slots, alpha, appearance or platform rules and must be validated with the target Xcode. Fine detail, text, shadow and gradients blur when downsampled, while upscaling does not create detail. The interface is English only. Editability depends on profiles and source assets; thumbnails are not masters. Although architecture-native, the older 1.5 build still needs full target macOS/Xcode testing.
Installation steps
- The site package is Icon Plus 1.5. The official App Store requires macOS 10.13+ and states native Intel and Apple-silicon support; the old listing’s “macOS 13” footer is not the official requirement for this build. Start with a lossless master at 1024×1024 or larger, preferably vector/high-resolution rather than upscaled artwork. Set canvas, solid/gradient or transparent background, corner curvature, border and shadow; import the centre image and adjust scale, rotation, offset and colour. Use text only when essential and test its small-size legibility. Export iOS, watchOS and macOS icon sets plus a custom PNG sample. Import into Xcode Assets.xcassets and inspect every slot, filename, pixel size, alpha, Contents.json/resource assignment and warning. Preview at 16–32px and against light/dark desktops. Icon Plus generates sizes; current Xcode/App Store validation remains authoritative.
Uninstallation steps
- Before removal, preserve reconstruction sources: highest-resolution artwork, text and font licence, colour values/space, canvas, corners, border, gradient, shadows, image scale/rotation/offset and saved profiles. Archive every exported iOS/watchOS/macOS set, custom PNG and final Xcode Assets.xcassets; do not retain only downsampled PNGs. Create a manifest and SHA-256, then import into a clean Xcode project, build and validate for missing slots, alpha and dimension warnings. Keep light/dark and smallest-size previews as visual acceptance evidence. For client/product icons, retain artwork, trademark, font and photo rights. Once copied to version control or independent archive, quit and remove the app; export or document profiles before clearing preferences.
Common errors and fixes
- For missing-icon or dimension errors in Xcode, verify the target asset catalog, resource slots, pixel dimensions, scale/idiom and Contents.json—not merely file existence. A legacy full-size set may not match the current Xcode template. For App Store alpha errors, export PNG over an opaque background and confirm the alpha channel is actually absent; JPEG lacks transparency but is not appropriate for every slot. Blurry small icons usually come from low-resolution input, thin strokes, excessive text or shadows; simplify the large master rather than sharpening thumbnails. For double rounding or inconsistent padding, determine whether the platform applies its own mask and avoid baking a second rounded rectangle. Check sRGB/ICC for colour shifts. If the app will not launch, confirm macOS 10.13+ and package integrity. Use custom names/separate folders to avoid overwrites. M-series Macs should use the native 1.5 build.
What changed in this version
- Official Icon Plus 1.5 (20 April 2023) changes are native operation on both Intel and Apple silicon, a raised minimum of macOS 10.13, minor fixes and a new app icon. It retains iOS, watchOS and macOS icon-set export, custom size/name, PNG/JPEG/JPE/JP2/JPX/TIFF/TIF/GIF/BMP output, plus canvas, gradient/transparent background, corners, borders, shadows, centre image and text controls. This describes capabilities present in 1.5 only; later platform-specification changes are not treated as app features.
