Description

HUMANKIND is a historical strategy game, where you’ll be re-writing the entire narrative of human history and combining cultures to create a civilization that’s as unique as you are.

CREATE YOUR CIVILIZATION

Combine up to 60 historical cultures as you lead your people from the Ancient to the Modern Age. From humble origins as a Neolithic tribe, transition to the Ancient Era as the Babylonians, become the Classical era Mayans, the Medieval Umayyads, the Early Modern era British, and so on. Each culture will add its own special gameplay layer, leading to near-endless outcomes.

MORE THAN HISTORY, IT’S YOUR STORY

Face historical events, take impactful moral decisions, and make scientific breakthroughs. Discover the natural wonders of the world or build the most remarkable creations of humankind. Each game element is historically authentic. Combine them to build your own vision of the world.

LEAVE YOUR MARK ON THE WORLD

The journey matters more than destination. Fame is a new and unifying victory condition. Every great deed you accomplish, every moral choice you make, every battle won will build your fame and leave a lasting impact on the world. The player with the most fame will win the game. Will you be the one to leave the deepest mark on the world?

MASTER TACTICAL BATTLES ON LAND, SEA & AIR

Each battle in HUMANKIND plays out like a mini turn-based board game on top of the actual world map. Unstack your armies and command each of your units, including the emblematic units of your culture and their special abilities. Construct siege weapons to besiege and occupy cities. Fight in large battles spanning multiple turns, and don’t hesitate to bring in reinforcements!

CUSTOMIZE YOUR LEADER

In HUMANKIND, you’ll be playing the leader of your society as an avatar that you create and customize! Your avatar will evolve visually over the course of the game as your civilization develops. You’ll also be able to level up your leader via a meta-progression system to u

Why we recommend it

Recommended for Civilization-style 4X players who want to re-plan cultural abilities each era and judge the entire route through Fame. Use a standard/small map and normal speed for the first campaign, and do not attach too many territories to one city too early. Before each era transition, compare the next culture’s Legacy Trait, Emblematic Quarter and Unit against current resources. Occupy elevation and river crossings before battle; use auto-resolve only for clearly favorable minor encounters. Enable mods only after a clean campaign save/load succeeds. Safe order: dual backup; 1.30/SHA-256; mods off; two fresh turns; city/diplomacy/battle; reload; old save.

Pros

  • Choosing a new culture each era lets one civilization chain different historical traits into a distinct path; sixty base cultures create extensive combinations. Fame unifies expansion, science, construction, war and era goals into one victory measure instead of rewarding only a single late-game ending. Territories, district adjacency, resources, Influence, religion and diplomacy interact, while battles unfold directly on world-map terrain with reinforcement and elevation choices. It supports solo, online PvP, Cloud, a level editor and 99 achievements; all five target languages have official interface and subtitles.

Cons

  • Free culture mixing can weaken continuity because a civilization repeatedly changes visual and historical identity. District adjacency, Stability, Influence, Fame stars, religion and diplomacy create a substantial learning load beyond the tutorial. Late-game cities, units and AI turns on large maps extend both management and waiting, while auto-resolve can differ greatly from manual deployment. Older mods may fail after 1.30 when tools do not match. Official Mac requirements list only Intel Core i7, with no explicit native Apple Silicon tier; 25 GB is only base storage.

Installation steps

  1. This page covers HUMANKIND 1.30. Official Mac minimums are macOS 10.13+, Intel Core i7 2.7 GHz, 8 GB RAM, Radeon 460 4 GB or Intel Iris Plus graphics, and 25 GB storage. Back up campaigns, world seeds, leader avatar, culture path, cities/territories, technologies, civics, religion, diplomacy, armies, mods and Steam Cloud, then record 1.30/SHA-256. Disable old mods for first launch. In a fresh game, explore the Neolithic era, found the first city, end a turn, save and reload; then test culture transition, city production, diplomacy and one land battle. Restore mods or an old campaign one at a time only after the clean save is stable.

Uninstallation steps

  1. Before uninstalling, finish the turn and leave combat, diplomatic proposal and culture-selection screens, then wait for autosave/Cloud sync. Do not force-quit during AI turns or large battle deployment. Create two rotating manual saves and record era, culture, Fame, cities, armies and turn number; back up local data, the mod list and 1.30/SHA-256. Reinstall with Cloud and mods disabled, use a small-map fresh game for two turns and one save/load, and compare technology, production, diplomacy and unit positions. Restore the campaign, then enable mods one by one.

Common errors and fixes

  1. If an old campaign will not load, disable every mod first; after 1.30, a game/Mod Tools mismatch can block older projects. If an AI combat turn takes too long, save to a new slot, restart and reduce background load. The 1.30 line includes an AI combat-turn fix, but an abnormal legacy save still needs isolated testing. For falling city Stability, inspect attached territories, population, districts, ideology and luxuries rather than only adding a garrison. If End Turn is blocked, review pending diplomacy, culture choice, research, city production and undeployed armies. Reduce resolution, shadows, terrain/unit detail and map size for low FPS. Apple Silicon is not in the official processor tier, so validate compatibility on a separate save.

What changed in this version

  1. The site build is 1.30. The official 1.30 line added the “War in the Pacific” scenario and improved AI handling of embarked units, landing routes, naval threats, anti-air risk and air-strike target distribution; a hotfix in the same line also addressed excessively long AI combat turns. Finer internal build numbers are not displayed and later content is not pulled forward. Acceptance covers displayed 1.30, a mod-free fresh save, Neolithic-to-city flow, turn save/reload, city production, diplomacy and one battle. Mod users should also confirm that their Mod Tools match the game.
