A controlled workflow: copy/curate photos; remove unnecessary GPS/EXIF; choose and lock the closest theme; replace every placeholder; inspect subject crop and resolution; use objects/effects sparingly to preserve hierarchy; create a low-resolution proof; review text, dates, child/family privacy and licences; export an sRGB master at target dimensions; calculate effective print DPI, bleed and safe area and order a proof; review on phone, ordinary display and print; retain project, source manifest, licences, PNG/TIFF master, delivery JPEG/PDF, SHA-256 and review date. For basic grids use Photos/Preview or FotoJet. For brand layouts use Affinity Publisher/Designer or Photoshop; for online collaboration use Canva; for professional albums/print choose software with colour management, bleed, PDF/X and vendor templates.

- Unlike a basic grid collage, it places photos in a complete scene with backgrounds, objects, perspective and focal length—useful for weddings, travel, family stories, invitations and wall mock-ups. Many high-resolution templates/backgrounds/transparent objects/frames give beginners a fast start, while Advanced mode supports blank canvases, custom masks/textures and precise layers. Layered nondestructive editing, real-time effects and stacking encourage experiments with shadows, frames, blur, masks and gradient maps without changing source photos. Protected themes reduce accidental movement. The Photos extension shortens library round trips, while standalone mode fits complex projects. High-resolution output serves gifts, posters and desktops. Release records cover Intel and Apple silicon. The developer privacy label says Data Not Collected, useful for family-photo workflows, though sharing paths still need independent review.
Cons
- The large install is mostly high-resolution themes/assets. Templates, deep effect stacks and huge canvases consume RAM/GPU and can cause corruption, hangs or long exports on older graphics hardware. Strongly themed decoration can become crowded or dated and is not a strict brand-system/minimal-layout tool. It is not photo management, RAW development, vector design or professional prepress; colour, bleed, PDF/X, font embedding and print proofs require external tools. The Photos extension inherits sandbox/source-persistence constraints, so external drops, permissions and library state can cause missing images. Legacy social sharing may fail. Nondestructive editing depends on its project format, so long-term archives also need flattened masters. There is no team collaboration, version control or automated accessibility/face-privacy check. Family/child photos and location clues require manual review before sharing.
Installation steps
- The site build is GoodTimes 2.1.2. Release records list OS X 10.10 or later and both Intel 64-bit and Apple-silicon architectures. Work with photo copies, not the only library originals. Test landscape/portrait, RAW-derived JPEG, transparent PNG, wide-gamut and mixed dimensions through three paths: standalone drag/drop, Photos extension and blank/template creation. Lock the theme, replace placeholders first, then inspect crop, focal subject, rotation, 3D perspective and camera focal length for every photo. Add text, objects, backgrounds, frames, masks and effects. Effect stacks and layer editing are nondestructive, but retain originals and the project. Use a low-resolution proof to inspect stacking, occlusion, shadows, alpha edges, spelling and safe crop, then export separate pixel dimensions/aspect ratios for desktop, social, display and print. Check high-resolution output in Preview/Photoshop for colour profile, alpha, sharpening, JPEG compression and true pixels. For print, calculate effective DPI at final size and order a proof. In the Photos extension verify added images, list/catalogue, double-click replacement, dragging and project saving. Record source/licences, theme assets, fonts, effect stack, export settings, size and SHA-256.
Uninstallation steps
- Before uninstalling, Save As every editable GoodTimes project and export a high-quality lossless master (prefer PNG/TIFF according to alpha needs) plus clearly purposed JPEG/PDF/print versions. Archive source photos, theme/object licences, backgrounds/custom textures/masks, fonts, text, effect stack, canvas dimensions, colour profile, project, low-resolution proofs, approved outputs and SHA-256. Prove finals open in another account or without GoodTimes. Quit Photos and disable/remove the Photos extension, then quit the app after confirming no background export or unsaved project. Before clearing container, preferences, cache or downloaded assets, check for unique custom themes, objects and recovery files. Uninstalling cannot remove shared content from Photos, cloud, social services, mail, desktop wallpaper or printers, nor restore overwritten exports. Remove sensitive family-photo copies from every location under the retention policy.
Common errors and fixes
- If the Photos extension cannot see/drag new images, confirm the extension is enabled, reopen Photos/project, and import the image into Photos first; an external file may be rejected because the extension cannot persist it. If double-click replacement or a second catalogue click fails, save, close/reopen the extension and test the standalone route. Blue blocks, corruption or hangs can involve GPU, deep effect stacks or huge textures: duplicate the project, disable effects/frames layer by layer, lower proof size, and test graphics/display paths. For blank/missing exports, inspect placeholder links, hidden/locked layers, crop, Photos permission and local availability; export small first. For high-resolution failure, reduce canvas/effects, free disk/RAM and save versions—never overwrite the last good project. Calculate effective print DPI at final dimensions, including backgrounds/objects. Normalise sRGB/ICC for shifts. Legacy sharing APIs may fail; export a local file and upload separately.

- The public GoodTimes 2.1.2 notes contain only two items: Visual corrections and Photos Extension corrections. No defect IDs or affected controls are supplied, so no further fix is inferred. The official App Store confirms the 2.x scope: standalone app plus Photos extension, about 50 templates, 35 backgrounds, 170+ objects, 25+ frames, 17 effects, protected themes/advanced editing, layered nondestructive work, real-time stackable effects, custom masks/textures, focal-length-precise 3D layout and high-resolution export.
