Description

Empire of Sin is a new strategy game brought to you by Romero Games and Paradox Interactive that puts you at the heart of the ruthless criminal underworld of 1920s Prohibition-era Chicago. Slip into the shoes of one of the fourteen real and historically inspired mob bosses such as Al Capone, Stephanie St.

Clair, or Goldie Garneau and assemble a rag-tag gang, build and manage your criminal empire, and defend your turf from rival gangs. It’s up to you to hustle, charm, and intimidate your way to the top and do whatever it takes to stay there – break a leg!

• Roleplay: Choose one of fourteen unique bosses based on fictional and real-world gangsters, then set out to build and manage your criminal empire in Chicago’s infamous Prohibition era.

• Empire Management: Build your Empire of Sin and run Chicago’s underworld economy with business savvy, brutality or city-wide notoriety. Strategically manage your establishments such as speakeasies, supply chains, casinos and more.

• Turn-Based Combat: Assemble your gang and slug it out in turn-based combat to defend and expand your territory – or send a message to opposing gangs.

Why we recommend it

Recommended for solo strategy players who enjoy management decisions creating tactical consequences, and for readers interested in Prohibition Chicago and mob personalities. Do not expand into several precincts at once: stabilize one brewery feeding two or three compatible rackets and retain cash for police, injuries and diplomatic events. Assign melee, ranged and support roles, inspect cover and escape routes before combat, and avoid auto-resolving when core crew could be lost. Keep a rotating weekly save. Safe order: dual backup; 1.11.0/SHA-256; fresh tutorial; racket settlement; one fight; reload; old save.

Pros

  • It places mob role-play, racket management, diplomacy and turn-based tactics on one Chicago map, so long-term planning and individual fights affect each other. Fourteen bosses differ in abilities, starting position and narrative background, supporting repeat campaigns. Alcohol production, transport, customer preference, upgrades, police pressure and faction relations form a readable management chain, while combat uses cover, action points, range and crew skills. All five target languages have official interface and subtitles, useful for the large amount of mission and diplomacy text.

Cons

  • Management, diplomacy, missions and combat are numerous, but feedback between them is not always clear; a new player may face alcohol shortages, falling cash flow, damaged relations and injured crew at once. A large empire creates repeated upgrade, restock and equipment work, while tactical maps and enemy groups can recur. Official Mac tiers remain Intel-based High Sierra/Catalina with older Radeon models, with no explicit Apple Silicon tier; current-system compatibility is therefore not guaranteed by the store specification. Content includes violence, blood, sexual themes, strong language and alcohol references.

Installation steps

  1. This page covers Empire of Sin 1.11.0. Official Mac minimums are macOS 10.13.6 High Sierra with Metal, Intel Core i5-4690, 8 GB RAM, Radeon R9 M290X 2 GB and 10 GB storage; the recommended tier is macOS 10.15.7, Core i7-7700K and Radeon Pro 580 8 GB. The channel package is about 6.78 GB. Back up campaigns, boss, crew, precincts, rackets, alcohol supply, diplomacy, missions, equipment and achievements, then record 1.11.0/SHA-256. In a fresh campaign, finish the tutorial, take one racket, configure alcohol supply, recruit one gangster and complete one turn-based fight. Reload from the main menu and compare cash, inventory, relationships and precinct ownership before restoring an old save.

Uninstallation steps

  1. Before uninstalling, finish combat and return to the world map, allowing weekly calculations, mission state and save writes to complete. Do not force-quit during auto-resolve, racket takeover, sit-down diplomacy or alcohol trades. Save to a new slot, back up local and Steam Cloud separately, and record date, boss, year, cash, precinct count, crew and 1.11.0/SHA-256. Reinstall with cloud disabled and test one racket-income tick plus one combat save/load on a fresh campaign. Copy the old save only after that succeeds, then re-enable cloud and resolve any conflict by timestamp and progress.

Common errors and fixes

  1. For a black screen or broken map rendering, confirm Metal support and disable overlays or third-party graphics tools; an old Intel integrated GPU is not equivalent to the official R9 M290X minimum. If attacks are unavailable, inspect action points, range, line of sight, cover and ammunition, cancel the selected ability and retarget. An unprofitable racket requires checking clientele, ambience, security, notoriety, preferred alcohol, inventory and supply rather than only upgrading the building. If diplomacy or a mission stalls, create a new manual save and reload the world map instead of overwriting the only slot. Apple Silicon is not explicitly listed in the official Mac tier; treat any compatibility-layer run as a separate validation environment and retain an Intel-compatible backup.

What changed in this version

  1. The site build is 1.11.0. The official public update index does not expose itemized notes that precisely match the complete 1.11.0 number, so Precinct Update, DLC or other dated patches are not misrepresented as additions to this build, and no higher version is disclosed. Verifiable scope includes fourteen historical or inspired bosses, Prohibition Chicago, precinct/racket management, alcohol supply chains, gang diplomacy, turn-based combat, missions, single-player play, 57 achievements and interface/subtitles in all five target languages. Acceptance covers displayed 1.11.0, tutorial completion, racket income, one fight and consistent data after reload.
