Description

From the creator of Big Pharma comes a brand new economic simulation game. Megaquarium follows in the footsteps of classic theme park management tycoon games and adds an aquatic spin!

A living simulation

Starting with just a few tanks and the most basic of livestock, you’ll grow your aquarium to a thronging metropolis filled with hundreds of guests, tens of staff and a multitude of different aquatic lifeforms, each with their own unique care

requirements

.

Design your exhibits

Megaquarium features almost 100 different marine species including fish, sharks, crustaceans, corals, jellyfish, other invertebrates and even a turtle! You’ll be spoilt for choice as you design, decorate and populate your tanks.

The right staff for the job

You won’t get far without the right staff. Choose who to hire based on their skills and future potential. Will you train up a team of multi-disciplined staff or a set of super-focussed experts? You’ll have to weigh up the pros and cons of each strategy and work out what is right for your aquarium.

Research new animals and technology

As guests experience your displays you’ll earn points which you can assign to discovering new livestock and equipment. Keep upgrading and expanding your aquarium and work your way up to the most prestigious animals and displays in the aquarium industry.

Manage your finances

The latest fish might look cool, but have you considered its impact on your aquarium’s bottom line. Tricky animals may require new staff to be hired, expensive fish food or supplements and the best tanks are a hefty investment! As aquarium curator you’ll need to master creativity and economics to succeed.

Manage your guests!

Keep your guests happy by providing them with seating, food, drinks and toilet facilities. Then at the end of their visit, direct them through the gift shop to boost your profits!

macOSOfficial Mac minimum: 64-bit OS X 10.10+, 8 GB RAM, AMD Radeon HD 7950, 1 GB; processor note is based on circa-2016 Intel Macs.
Apple SiliconNo official Apple Silicon tier is published. Validate a small mod-free aquarium, guest peak, filtration and save/load before importing a long save.
Intel MacCompatible
Why we recommend it

Recommended for theme-park management, animal-compatibility planning and iterative visitor-flow optimization. Macs matching the Intel/Radeon tier should use 8 GB+ and begin small. Apple Silicon should run a mod-free sandbox for 30–60 minutes, stressing guest peaks, staff dispatch, climate/filtration and save/load. Workflow: dual backup; record 5.1.5g/SHA-256; match DLC; validate a new aquarium; load an old copy; restore Workshop in batches. Complete campaign before sandbox. Compare Planet Zoo for terrestrial animals or Two Point Museum for themed collection management.

Pros

  • Real temperature, water quality, diet, grouping, predation and space needs become readable management systems with educational depth. Campaign teaches gradually; sandbox is highly customizable with random challenges. Nearly 100 species and extensive tank equipment, décor and staff facilities make aquariums distinct. Staff skills, research, talks, sightlines, flow, food and gift shop connect animal care to front-of-house business. Scale grows gradually, while pause and overlays aid diagnosis.

Cons

  • Late aquariums simulate many guests, staff, animals, tanks and machines; pathing/maintenance becomes frequent micromanagement and raises CPU/GPU load. A bad compatibility or supply chain can cascade into deaths, so back up long saves. Official Mac specs are old/oddly phrased around Intel/Xeon and Radeon HD 7950, with no recommendation or Apple Silicon statement. Some freshwater/deep-sea species/equipment are DLC. Workshop quality, balance and compatibility vary, and missing dependencies damage old layouts.

Installation steps

  1. This page covers Megaquarium 5.1.5g. Official Mac minimum is 64-bit OS X 10.10, 8 GB RAM, AMD Radeon HD 7950 and 1 GB storage; its processor note targets circa-2016 Intel Macs and provides no Apple Silicon tier. Reserve 8 GB. Back up Steam Cloud/local aquariums, campaign, sandbox rules, staff, livestock collection, research, finances, Workshop and DLC, and record SHA-256. First disable Workshop and use a new sandbox to test water/temperature, filtration, feeding, compatibility, staff routes, guest facilities, research and save/load, then open an old-aquarium copy.

Uninstallation steps

  1. Before uninstalling, pause, let staff finish active feeding/repair and save manually. Back up cloud/local aquariums separately, campaign stars, sandbox settings, species/research unlocks, staff skills, finances, layout, Workshop list and DLC. Label 5.1.5g, date and SHA-256; keep both cloud-conflict sides. After reinstalling, build a tank, filter and staff zone in a blank sandbox and save before importing old data. Match DLC first, restore Workshop in batches and troubleshoot missing livestock/equipment only on a copy.

Common errors and fixes

  1. For sick/dead animals, check water quality, temperature, oxygen, filtration, food type/stock, predator/size compatibility, group size and tank capacity. Idle staff may lack doors, staff-zone access, path, priority, skill, equipment station or supplies. Guest congestion needs better one-way flow, stairs, seating, toilets, food, gift shop and viewing frontage. For low FPS, verify 8 GB, Radeon HD 7950-class graphics, space and SHA-256, then reduce guests, livestock, décor and view distance. Restore matching DLC/Workshop before opening missing-content saves. Apple Silicon has no official tier; use a small mod-free test aquarium.

What changed in this version

  1. The site version is 5.1.5g. No publicly indexed official itemized changelog maps exactly to this internal build, so later builds, expansion marketing and community guesses are not presented as its changes. Verifiable base scope includes a 10-level tutorial campaign, customizable sandbox/random challenges, 97 species with individual care, 100+ filtration/climate/service/decor objects, staff skills/talks, research, guest needs, gift shop, finances and Steam Workshop/Cloud. Freshwater and deep-sea content depends on DLC ownership. Validate displayed 5.1.5g, old aquarium, animal needs, staff dispatch and save/load.
