Description

Escape Simulator 2 is the sequel to the best-selling escape room game. With immersive new environments, deeper puzzles, and innovative builder tools, it’s the ultimate first person escape room experience.

Explore new locations crafted with the help of escape room experts and legendary community builders. Each room pack contains four rooms filled with intricate puzzles and hidden mysteries:

• Dracula’s Castle: Step into the shadowy fortress, uncover its secrets, and free the town from a dark curse.

• Starship EOS: An exploration vessel is stranded after a collision, forcing you to retrieve an energy source from a mysterious dark sphere.

• The Cursed Treasure: Follow a cryptic map to a pirate island, overcome treacherous trials, and claim the ancient treasure.

With more content coming soon after the release!

The game is designed for both solo play and multiplayer with friends. Up to 8 players can join together online, with built-in voice and text chat for easy puzzle-solving communication.

When you step into Escape Simulator 2, we want it to feel like you’re walking into a real-life escape room. Every detail is designed for interactivity—you can pick up and examine objects, wipe away dirt, drive vehicles, take a seat wherever you like, and move anything that’s not bolted down.

Create your dream escape rooms with the updated Room Editor 2.0! After seeing over 4,000 rooms built in the first game, we’ve made the tools even more powerful and intuitive. The new lighting engine makes your rooms look more like the official rooms, the Building Editor lets you design rooms (with working stairs!), and you can bring everything to life with Sequence animations.

Why a sequel?

A sequel gives us a fresh start and lets us push the limits of the genre further. We were inspired to explore darker escape room themes and experiment with new gameplay and puzzle ideas. Splitting from the original game let us focus on improving key features like rendering, networking, physics, a

Why we recommend it

Recommended for first-person escape-room fans, voice co-op groups and aspiring room builders. M1/8 GB can begin at 1080p with reduced dynamic lighting; complex Workshop rooms/editor work favor M2/16 GB and 40 GB headroom. Workflow: two backups; record build 20448/SHA-256; test an official room without community content; verify two-player networking/voice; import editor projects; restore Workshop in batches. Two to four players preserve observation; larger groups should assign notes, search, mechanisms and props. Compare the original Escape Simulator for a mature Workshop catalog or We Were Here for two-player narrative co-op.

Pros

  • Expert/community-designed rooms mix observation, logic, mechanisms, hidden objects and communication at a brisk pace. Nearly every unsecured object can be picked up, rotated, cleaned or moved, producing strong environmental feedback. Up to eight players have built-in voice/text chat, while solo remains complete. Room Editor 2.0 building, lighting, stairs and sequences give community content substantial scope. Its darker mood has no jump scares or gore. All five target languages have official interface/subtitles.

Cons

  • Experienced solvers may consume official rooms quickly and then depend on Workshop, whose quality, performance and version compatibility vary. Oversized groups become chaotic as players grab objects or solve parallel steps; latency magnifies physics desync. M1/8 GB is only the floor, while complex community rooms and editor lighting suit M2/16 GB better. Intel is unsupported. Room Editor 2.0 has a learning curve for logic, triggers and sequences, and broken/missing-asset projects require manual diagnosis.

Installation steps

  1. This page covers site build 20448. Official Mac minimum is Big Sur 11, Apple M1, 8 GB RAM and 20 GB storage; recommended is Apple M2, 16 GB and 40 GB, with broadband for multiplayer. Intel Macs are outside official support. Reserve at least 40 GB. Back up Steam Cloud/local saves, completed rooms, hint progress, tokens, Room Editor 2.0 projects/assets and Workshop subscriptions, and record installer SHA-256. First test a clean profile without Workshop content across Dracula’s Castle, Starship EOS, The Cursed Treasure, physics interactions, voice/text chat, an eight-player lobby and save/load, then restore community rooms individually.

Uninstallation steps

  1. Before uninstalling, leave active multiplayer cleanly after the host saves, and duplicate every editor project. Back up Steam Cloud and local saves separately, room completion, tokens, settings/keybinds, Room Editor 2.0 scenes/buildings/lighting/sequences, previews and Workshop list. Label build 20448, date and SHA-256; preserve both sides of a cloud conflict. After reinstalling, finish one official room and test a multiplayer reconnect on clean data before importing saves/projects. Restore community rooms in batches and troubleshoot only project copies.

Common errors and fixes

  1. For black screen, crash or low FPS, confirm Big Sur 11, the M1/8 GB floor, 20 GB free space and SHA-256; disable overlays/Workshop rooms and lower resolution, shadows and dynamic lighting. Intel Macs fail official minimum. For join failures or desync, match build 20448 and the community-room revision on every player, allow Steam/game through the firewall, test without VPN or change host, and avoid simultaneous object manipulation under high latency. For silent microphones, check macOS privacy and input device. Duplicate an editor project before removing its latest asset/Sequence. Reset a stuck room only after preserving progress.

What changed in this version

  1. No publicly indexed official changelog maps item-by-item to internal build 20448, so this page does not assign later-build notes or player guesses to it. Verifiable release scope includes three four-room packs—Dracula’s Castle, Starship EOS and The Cursed Treasure—solo and up-to-eight-player online co-op, built-in voice/text chat, highly interactive physics, and Room Editor 2.0 with revised lighting, Building Editor, working stairs and Sequence animation. After installation, validate the displayed build, official rooms, networking and editor behavior.
