Description
Escape Simulator is a first-person puzzler you can play solo or in an online co-op. Explore a growing set of highly interactive escape rooms. Move furniture, pick up and examine everything, smash pots and break locks! Supports community-made rooms through the level editor.
Interactive Puzzles: Rummage through 28 rooms filled with puzzles designed by real-life escape room operators. If something is not nailed to the wall, you can pick it up.
Online Co-Op: All the rooms are playable in an online co-op. We recommend to play built-in rooms with up to 3 players (but you’re welcome to play with more). Community rooms have been tested with up to 10 people. Customize your character and join with friends to work-out puzzles together. More heads are better than one!
Examine Everything: Read through books, examine ancient artifacts and find clues to riddles. Need to cross-reference a clue? No, problem – just pin it to the screen.
Community-Made Rooms: The game includes a room editor with which you can design your own escape rooms and puzzles. Through workshop integration, you get to play awesome things the community has created.
The rooms are arranged into packs:
Labyrinth of Egypt
“You and your mentor discovered the ancient Labyrinth of Egypt. By accident, he activated a
trap, and you got separated, with no way out in sight.”
Adrift in Space
“An explosion wakes you up. Your spaceship has been hit by debris, and you’re heading straight into the sun.”
Edgewood Mansion
“You were invited to attend a special dinner at Dr. Edgewood’s mansion. Instead of eating food, you’ll be solving a victorian mystery.”
Omega Corporation
“Your friend disappeared while investigating the mysterious Omega Corporation. Follow their tracks and uncover the truth.”

Editor-checked details
Recommended for physical-style observation, friend co-op and community-room fans. Intel Macs need x64/Metal; M1 has an explicit positive official note, while M2/M3/M4 should validate a fresh profile for 30 minutes. The 4 GB floor suits light official rooms; long-term Workshop/editor use favors 16 GB and 25 GB free. Workflow: dual backup; record 38287r/SHA-256; test an official room without Workshop; verify two-player networking; import editor projects; restore subscriptions in batches. Use 2–3 players for official rooms and follow creator guidance for community rooms. Compare Escape Simulator 2 for newer visuals/eight-player co-op/Editor 2.0 or We Were Here for two-player narrative.
Pros
- Highly free object interaction lets players pick up, rotate, inspect, break or move most unsecured furniture, books, containers and props, closely evoking a physical escape room. Official rooms combine observation, codes, mechanisms, spatial reasoning and co-op roles cleanly, yet remain complete solo. Online co-op, Versus, characters and pinned clues aid communication. A mature editor and thousands of Workshop rooms greatly extend longevity. All five target languages have official interface, full audio and subtitles.
Cons
- Experienced solvers may exhaust official rooms quickly and then depend on Workshop, where quality, hinting, performance and compatibility vary widely. Oversized groups become chaotic and latency causes physics desync. The 4 GB official floor is low; heavy rooms suit 16 GB and a stronger Metal GPU. Editor logic, triggers, animation and asset management take learning, while broken projects cost time to diagnose. DLC/free themes depend on actual installation and entitlement and cannot be assumed present.
Installation steps
- This page covers Escape Simulator build 38287r. Official Mac minimum is High Sierra 10.13, an x64 SSE2 processor, 4 GB RAM, Metal-capable GPU and 18 GB storage; recommendation is 16 GB, 19 GB and broadband. Pine Studio explicitly says it works great on M1 Macs. Reserve 25 GB. Back up Steam Cloud/local completion, tokens, hints, characters, settings, level-editor projects and Workshop subscriptions, and record SHA-256. First disable community content and use a new profile to test Labyrinth of Egypt, Adrift in Space, Edgewood Mansion, Omega Corporation, pinned clues, co-op and save/load; then restore Workshop items individually.
Uninstallation steps
- Before uninstalling, leave co-op cleanly after the host saves and duplicate every editor project. Back up cloud/local progress separately, tokens, hint state, characters, settings, screenshots/notes, room assets/logic/previews, Workshop list and DLC ownership. Label 38287r, date and SHA-256, and keep both cloud-conflict copies. After reinstalling, complete one official room and test a two-player reconnect on clean data before importing saves/projects. Restore community rooms in batches and diagnose damaged projects only on copies.
Common errors and fixes
- For launch crash/low FPS, verify High Sierra 10.13, Metal, 18 GB free and SHA-256; disable overlays/Workshop and reduce resolution/shadows. Heavy community rooms can exceed the 4 GB floor, so prefer 16 GB. For join failure/physics desync, match build 38287r and room revision, allow Steam/game through firewall, test without VPN or change host, and avoid simultaneous object manipulation under latency. Check pinned clues, trash and reset options before resetting a room, preserving progress first. Duplicate an editor project before removing its latest logic/assets. M1 is explicitly covered; newer M-series still deserves a clean trial.
What changed in this version
- The site channel identifies build 38287r. No publicly indexed official itemized changelog maps exactly to this internal build, so later-build announcements are not attributed to it. Verifiable scope includes Labyrinth of Egypt, Adrift in Space, Edgewood Mansion and Omega Corporation; free themed content such as Portal, Among Us, PowerWash and The Talos Principle where installed/owned; solo/online co-op, Versus, pinned clues, character customization, the room editor and thousands of Workshop rooms. Validate the displayed build, official rooms, networking and editor behavior after installation.
