Description
Begin your adventure aboard your personal, giant voidship, traveling between the multitude of systems within the Koronus Expanse, a barely charted and incredibly perilous region of space. Despite being considered a backwater of the Imperium, this region encompasses an enormous stretch of the void, filled with dangerous creatures and prodigious opportunities for profit and exploration.
Your decisions matter, Lord-Captain.
During quests show your subjects mercy or disdain, stay faithful to the God-Emperor, or consort with enemies of Mankind – your every decision and every act, even in character creation, is changing the in-game open world and those who inhabit it.
Gather your crew.
Rogue Traders never travel alone. Gather your retinue of righteous heroes, twisted psykers, and perfidious xenos. All of them are ready to follow you into the darkness between the stars. They will offer you counsel, aid you in battle, and allow you to amass ever more power. In return, you can guide them through their own personal journeys, changing their destinies forever.
Plan your actions carefully.
Slaughter the enemies of Mankind in a fully-fledged isometric turn-based tactical combat. Take advantage of cover, the environment, and careful positioning to overpower your enemies. When that is not enough – use your companion`s powerful abilities to turn the tide of battle and achieve victory even in the direst of situations.
Our video game adaption of the classic Rogue Trader ruleset allows an enormous number of possibilities for you to explore.

Editor-checked details
Recommended for players who enjoy long-form writing, party builds, demanding turn-based tactics and Warhammer 40K’s grim setting. Start an 8-GB M1 or minimum Intel Mac at low/medium quality; M1X-class/16 GB is safer. Workflow: reserve 55 GB; back up every save/ToyBox config; record 1.6.1.166, DLC and SHA-256; test the prologue and ground combat without mods; test void travel/saving; load a mid/late-game copy; restore only explicitly compatible mods. Compare Baldur’s Gate 3 for fantasy party CRPG, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous for complex rules, or Stellaris for space empires, after confirming Mac support.
Pros
- Set in the Warhammer 40K Koronus Expanse, it combines branching dialogue, conviction paths, companion quests, colony management, star-map exploration and turn-based tactics into a hundred-hour-scale CRPG. Careers, archetypes, talents, gear, psychic powers and turn synergies offer deep builds, with cover, positioning and initiative carrying real weight. Both Apple silicon and Intel Macs have official configurations, offline solo is available, and English, Simplified/Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean interfaces/subtitles are supported.
Cons
- Rules, careers, talents, damage formulae and stacking buffs are extremely complex, with dense tooltips and easy early build mistakes. The long campaign, quest flags, companions, DLC and mods make save migration risky, and major Owlcat patches can change build strength. M1/8 GB or minimum Intel/Radeon is entry-level; large late battles and colonies are better with 16 GB. Some story/companion content is paid DLC. Blood, dismemberment, torture, slavery, abuse, self-harm, suicide and other disturbing themes make it unsuitable for some audiences.
Installation steps
- This page covers Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader 1.6.1.166. Official Mac minimum is macOS 10.14.6, Intel i3-8100/Radeon Pro 555X 2 GB or Apple M1, 8 GB RAM and 40 GB storage; recommended is macOS 10.15.7, Intel i5-8400/Radeon Pro 570X 4 GB or Apple-silicon M1X-class, 16 GB. The site package is about 33.69 GB, so keep 55 GB free. Back up saves, character builds, ToyBox/other mod lists and DLC entitlement; record 1.6.1.166 and SHA-256. First test dialogue choices, turn-based combat, cover, abilities, void travel/combat and save/load on a clean profile. Then use a copy to verify companions, quests, colonies, reputation, equipment and DLC entrances. Never overwrite the only long campaign after a major patch.
Uninstallation steps
- Make a manual save aboard the voidship or outside combat and wait for completion. Copy manual, autosave and quicksave files, settings, character-build notes/screens and mod configuration; label them with 1.6.1.166, chapter, quests, colonies, party, DLC, last-save time and SHA-256. Load the copy offline and complete dialogue, one ground combat, a void journey and another save. For diagnosis, disable ToyBox/all mods and rename cache/configuration rather than deleting the only save. Preserve both copies during cloud conflicts. After reinstalling, save once in a new prologue before restoring a copy; never overwrite with missing DLC/mods. Keep pre/post-patch generations.
Common errors and fixes
- For launch failure or low FPS, verify space/SHA-256, disable mods/overlays and reduce shadows, anti-aliasing, effects and crowds. Eight GB is minimum; long battles and late colonies are better with 16 GB. If an old save hangs or quest/companion state is wrong, load a copy without ToyBox, verify DLC and inspect the earliest log error instead of overwriting autosaves. Apple silicon is officially supported from M1; Intel should approximate i3-8100 plus Radeon Pro 555X. If ability/buff values differ from old guides, 1.6.1 contains balance nerfs and important fixes, so follow current tooltips. For missing DLC achievements/triggers, verify 1.6.1.166, entitlement and a clean environment and retry a pre-trigger copy.
What changed in this version
- Version 1.6.1 is a balance-and-critical-fixes patch focused on combat, buffs, quest triggers, achievements and stability around The Infinite Museion content. Some over-performing combinations were nerfed while issues blocking DLC progression or reward checks were addressed. The macOS channel’s 1.6.1.166 is a distinct release build confirmed within the 1.6.1 series. Because a complete Owlcat item list mapping one-to-one to suffix 166 could not be reliably retrieved, unverified numerical values or quest names are not inserted here. Use current tooltips, quest log and a clean copied save after updating.
