REQUIREMENTS
Editor-checked details
Recommended for players who enjoy Heroes-style exploration, town development, unit counters and turn tactics but want a modern interface, co-op and map editing. Start with one faction on a short map and learn resources, troop caps, Essence and initiative before a long campaign; keep separate saves before major recruitment or pivotal battles. Safe order: backup; 1.8.2/SHA-256; temporary save; language/scaling; battle/spells; completion marks; editor; multiplayer; long-term save.
Pros
- Exploration, town economy, army composition and hex-based turn combat form a coherent loop; high ground, chokepoints, troop abilities and Essence spells make even small battles tactical. Arleon, Rana, Loth and Barya differ clearly in art, economy and unit logic, while four bard-led campaigns add verses as missions are completed. Official features include single-player, online/local PvP, co-op, cross-platform multiplayer, controllers, Cloud and a level editor, with interface/subtitles in all five target languages.
Cons
- The learning curve is substantial: resource conversion, troop caps, Essence combinations, initiative and map tempo all affect outcomes. Pixel art is polished but dense armies can crowd a small display, requiring UI scaling. Campaign narrative and exploration are deliberate rather than fast, and multiplayer depends on matching version, mods and map. The official minimum block retains an old “may change” note, so newer Apple chips and high-DPI displays should still be checked with a temporary save.
Installation steps
- This page covers Songs of Conquest 1.8.2. Before installing, confirm macOS 10.13 High Sierra or later, an Apple M1 or 2.6 GHz Intel processor, 8 GB RAM, M1 graphics or a 2 GB Radeon Pro 450-class GPU with OpenGL 3.3, and at least 4 GB free storage. Back up campaign, skirmish and custom-map saves and record the installer SHA-256. With a temporary save, validate the localized interface, campaign map, town building, turn-based battle, spells, save reload and local/online modes before touching a long-term save.
Uninstallation steps
- Before uninstalling, leave the current battle and wait for the map save to finish; never force-quit during turn resolution, online synchronization or a map-editor save. Back up campaigns, skirmish saves, custom maps, editor assets and settings separately, recording 1.8.2, SHA-256, Mac model and OS. After reinstalling, compare Cloud and local timestamps, then use a copy to test movement, one battle, a town turn and quit/reload before restoring the main save.
Common errors and fixes
- For launch failure or black screen, verify 10.13+, 8 GB RAM, 4 GB storage and OpenGL 3.3, check files/permissions and retry once windowed. M1 and 2.6 GHz Intel are official minimums; M2/M3/M4 normally follow the Apple-silicon path but still need device validation. Patch 1.8.2 repairs Tale/DLC completion checks across pre-1.8 and 1.8 maps. It also targets full-skill-slot entity rewards, missing Poachers in random neutral armies, stale research levels, Charge/Bullrush/Repel interactions with Overwatch/Spearwall, Blind Hatred AI targeting and localized Random Value editor criteria. For multiplayer mismatch, align version, mods and map on every Mac.
What changed in this version
- The channel build is 1.8.2. It makes small balance changes to the first Tales of Wonder map and replaces Archery with Chaos as its starting skill. Tale and DLC completion checks now recognize maps from both before and after 1.8. Fixes cover upgrading an existing skill with no empty slot, Poachers in randomized neutral armies, research levels after losing a building, reaction abilities after forced movement, Blind Hatred AI targeting and localized Random Value editor criteria. Validate old completion marks, entity rewards, research UI, reaction attacks and editor conditions.
