Description
Experience legendary American trucks and deliver various cargoes across sunny California and sandy Nevada. American Truck Simulator takes you on a journey through the breathtaking landscapes and widely recognized landmarks around the States.
Game mechanics are based on the highly successful model from Euro Truck Simulator 2 and have been expanded with new features, creating the most captivating game experience from SCS Software.
American Truck Simulator puts you in the seat of a driver for hire entering the local freight market, making you work your way up to become an owner-operator, and go on to create one of the largest transportation companies in the United States.
Features
• Drive highly detailed truck models officially licensed from iconic truck manufacturers.
• Your truck is your new home. Make it yours by changing cabins, chassis, paintjobs, adding tuning accessories or more powerful engines.
• Lots of different cargoes to choose: From food to machinery to hazard cargoes.
• Multiple types of trailers – from reefers to flatbeds, from dumpers to lowboys and goosenecks.
• The longest trailers (up to 53 ft) will challenge your skills and patience while hauling and during parking.
• Deliver your cargoes to a rich variety of companies and locations like refineries, oil storage, gas stations, car factories, or roadworks.
• Various simulation settings for trucking enthusiasts: Air brake simulation; different types of brakes: retarder, Jake brake, trailer brake; multiple types of transmissions straight from real trucks, brake intensity, and more.
• Feel like inside a real cabin: Adjust your seat, mirrors and position your head to get the best view of the road.
• Drive safely, follow the rules and speed limits – police will fine you if you aren’t careful!
• Ensure that you are not delivering overweight cargo – you may be checked at the weigh scales.
• Use the route adviser as your personal assistant during the travels.
• Try the life of a truck driver for hire.
Editor-checked details
Recommended for players who enjoy deliberate driving, vehicle detail, long-route planning and transport-company management. Judge Intel Macs against Steam’s 8-GB minimum/12-GB recommendation. Apple silicon can be attempted through Rosetta, but first test a clean profile at default/low quality for 30 minutes. Workflow: reserve 50 GB; back up profile/mod/config; record 1.60.1.8s, DLC and SHA-256; complete a short delivery and rest; test Game Radio/Job Details; verify the wheel; copy the old profile; restore mods in load order. Compare Euro Truck Simulator 2 for Europe, SnowRunner for difficult terrain, or Farming Simulator for machinery/management.
Pros
- Licensed American trucks, cab customisation, long trailers, weigh stations, traffic law, air/retarder/engine braking and company economy create a relaxed but detailed hauling simulation. Extensive map DLC, trucks, cargo, World of Trucks and community mods support years of progression, with granular keyboard, controller and wheel mapping. Version 1.60’s radio, job information and controllable rest reduce menu interruptions, while improved materials make selected cabs clearer.
Cons
- A complete collection of states, trucks and cargo beyond the base map requires substantial paid DLC. The hauling loop is intentionally slow, so long highways and repeated parking will not suit instant-action players. The Mac client is not native Apple silicon; Rosetta, the legacy graphics path and wheel drivers create performance/peripheral uncertainty, while Steam’s high-clock quad-core/desktop-GPU recommendation does not map directly to M chips. Large mod stacks are sensitive to version, load order and DLC dependencies and can crash or break roads after updates.
Installation steps
- This page covers American Truck Simulator 1.60.1.8s. The channel still lists OS X 10.9+, but Steam’s current Mac baseline is macOS 11, quad-core 3.3 GHz, 8 GB RAM, 2 GB graphics and 25 GB for the base game; quad-core 4.6 GHz and 12 GB are recommended. Map DLC, mods and saves add substantial size, so keep 50 GB free. The Mac client remains x86-64: Intel runs directly, while Apple silicon depends on Rosetta rather than native ARM. Back up profile, saves, mods and controller configuration; record 1.60.1.8s, DLC and SHA-256. First test driving, loading, rest, Game Radio, Job Details, wheel/controller and saving without mods, then copy the old profile and restore mods individually.
Uninstallation steps
- Park at an owned garage or safe service area, make a manual save and quit. Copy profiles, saves, config, controls, mod manifest and game.log, labelled with 1.60.1.8s, truck, location, current job, map DLC, economy mods, last-save time and SHA-256. Load the copy offline, abandon the current job if necessary, and verify garages, drivers, trucks, money and map. For diagnosis, remove every mod and rename config rather than deleting the only profile. Preserve both local/cloud copies during conflicts. After reinstalling, complete one short delivery and rest on a new profile before restoring the old one; never overwrite while map DLC is missing.
Common errors and fixes
- For post-update crashes or map gaps, 1.60 changes UI, rest and materials: remove obsolete map, traffic, economy, truck and dashboard mods and start a copied profile clean. Never save with required map DLC missing. For Apple-silicon stutter, remember the client still runs through Rosetta; reduce scaling, mirrors, shadows, reflections and vegetation and close background apps. Eight GB is minimum. For missing wheel force feedback or wrong pedals, confirm macOS driver support, reset controls and remove duplicate mappings. If Game Radio is silent, check station/music volume and streaming network. Mandatory Break causes rest penalties in 1.60; Rest State and Mandatory Break can be adjusted separately. Enable Job Details through F6 Widget Options.
What changed in this version
- Version 1.60 adds five distinct Game Radio stations and a configurable widget. Mack Anthem and Western Star 49X first receive the improved interior material system, with global exposure, contrast and bad-weather lighting tweaks. It adds Kenworth W900/T680 2022 TourAmerica paint, company paint jobs and a Job Details widget; GPS shows arrival day/time plus remaining time/distance. Rest is split into Rest State and Mandatory Break: ATS permits 14 driving hours followed by 10 consecutive rest hours, and each system can be toggled separately. Site build 1.60.1.8s is a 1.60 maintenance build; no separate itemised official log was found for that full suffix, so no extra fixes are inferred.
