Description
The new, more connected After Effects can make the impossible possible. Get powerful new features like a Live 3D Pipeline that brings CINEMA 4D scenes in as layers – without intermediate rendering. Share work directly from within the application and get access to new features the moment they’re released. Your entire creative world, together in one place.
After Effects CC is part of Creative Cloud. That means you have access to all the latest updates and future releases the moment they’re available. Sharpen your skills and master new tools with a rich library of training videos. And Creative Cloud is integrated with Behance, so you can share your projects and get immediate feedback from creatives around the world.
WHAT’S NEW
Version 26.0.0:
• After Effects no longer crashes when selecting the October India Compressed Hairline font.
• Line breaks are now preserved when scripting marker comments that include carriage return characters.
• Scale, rotation, and orientation values now update live in the properties panel as you adjust layers in the composition viewer.
• Undoing a change to a light’s falloff type now correctly updates the visibility of the falloff controls.
• Using expressions to create variable font animations no longer slows performance or creates extra font-style menu entries.
• Playback no longer drops frames when using cache before playback with cached frames.
• The info panel now updates correctly when navigating the layer stack using Cmd/Ctrl + arrow keys.
• Times in the project panel’s date column now display correctly without future offsets.
• The number effect now correctly displays date and time formats when After Effects runs in a language different from the OS.
• After Effects no longer crashes when creating shapes from text layers with special characters.
• The info panel now shows the number of timeline layers selected with edit > select all.
• Still footage duration settings no longer affect new non-still footage layers.
• Japanese
Editor-checked details
Recommended for broadcast packages, advertising composites, titles, 2D/3D motion design, UI animation and teams in Adobe workflows. Final Cut users can compare Motion for native titles/transitions; compare DaVinci Resolve Fusion for node compositing with grading, Cavalry for procedural 2D animation, or Blender for full 3D modeling/rendering. Before production upgrades, test the most demanding representative project with every plug-in, expression, font, Dynamic Link and delivery path, retaining a rollback environment. Sourced from Adobe's v26.0 requirements, features, fixes and known issues
Pros
- Industry-standard motion graphics, compositing, layer animation, tracking, keying, expressions and plug-in ecosystem; deep integration with Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, Media Encoder, Cinema 4D and Frame.io; precise 2D/3D control in one composition; MOGRT, scripting and automation suit repeat production and team templates.
Cons
- High subscription cost and learning curve; not a long-form editor or full 3D modeler, so complex work often needs Premiere and C4D/Blender; layer/frame caching is demanding on RAM, GPU and disk; plug-in, script, font and Dynamic Link version dependencies are complex; major upgrades can destabilize old projects, expressions or plug-ins.
Installation steps
- After Effects 26.0 requires macOS Sonoma 14 or later, 16 GB RAM minimum and 8 GB installation space. Intel Macs need a 6th-generation or newer AVX2 CPU and 4 GB VRAM on discrete AMD graphics; Apple silicon runs natively, with M1 Pro/Max/Ultra or newer and 16 GB+ unified memory recommended. Adobe video apps no longer support Rosetta from v24, so M-series Macs must use the native build.
- Install and activate through Creative Cloud. Keep the app/cache on a fast internal SSD and media/large disk cache on another fast drive. Configure Memory & Performance, Disk Cache, GPU, color and preview resolution before adding v26/Apple-silicon-compatible plug-ins, scripts, fonts and Cinema 4D components. Duplicate .aep/.aepx projects, assets and the previous app before upgrading, then test Dynamic Link, expressions, MOGRT and render queues.
Uninstallation steps
- Back up .aep/.aepx files, autosaves, media, proxies, collected projects, render/output templates, workspaces, shortcuts, scripts, expression libraries, MOGRTs, LUTs, fonts and plug-in inventory. Projects do not embed every linked asset, font, SBSAR, C4D or external data file; use Collect Files and audit dependencies before handoff.
- Uninstall through Creative Cloud rather than deleting the app bundle. Export or document custom settings before removing preferences. Media Encoder, Premiere, Cinema 4D, plug-ins and shared caches are separate components. For a troubleshooting reinstall, preserve the previous build and plug-in folders until representative projects open, preview and render successfully, then clear old cache/components.
Common errors and fixes
- If v26.0 crashes while opening or previewing a project, go to Preferences > Disk > Disk Cache and disable Enable Compressed Frames (Lossless). This is Adobe's workaround for Compressed Disk Caching incompatibility with some projects/hardware. Clear Disk and Media Cache if cached frames are corrupt.
- For launch hangs, temporarily remove third-party plug-ins/scripts, reset preferences, and verify v26/Apple-silicon compatibility. M-series Macs cannot use Rosetta to load old Intel-only plug-ins. Intel Macs with AMD graphics on Sonoma 14 may crash when Draft 3D and a Transmit device are used together; disconnect Transmit or update macOS.
- For missing media, fonts, effects or SBSAR color bars, preserve paths, Replace Footage and install dependencies. If an SBSAR looks online in Project but fails in a comp, choose Reload Footage. For slow previews or low memory, lower resolution, limit background apps, purge caches, pre-render precomps and use a separate fast cache drive. Keep Dynamic Link app versions aligned.
What changed in this version
- After Effects 26.0 (January 2026) adds Substance 3D (SBSAR) materials, directly created/animated parametric sphere, cube and cone meshes, and multiple shadow-casting Spot, Parallel and Environment lights in Advanced 3D; variable-font-axis animation, the Unmult effect, lossless compressed playback/disk cache, and Cinema 4D 2025. It also fixes a specific font crash, scripted marker line breaks, live Properties values and variable-font expression performance.
