Description

Corporations are competing to transform Mars into a habitable planet by spending vast resources and using innovative technology to raise temperature, create a breathable atmosphere, and make oceans of water. As terraforming progresses, more and more people will immigrate from Earth to live on the Red Planet.

In Terraforming Mars, you control a corporation with a certain profile. Play project cards, build up production, place your cities and green areas on the map, and race for milestones and awards!

Will your corporation lead the way into humanity’s new era?

GAMEPLAY

• Achieve a high Terraform Rating, by increasing the temperature and oxygen level or creating oceans… Make the planet habitable for future generations!

• Get Victory Points by building cities, infrastructure and other ambitious projects.

• But watch out! Rival corporations will try to slow you down… That’s a nice forest you planted there… It’d be a shame if an asteroid crashed right on it.

MAIN FEATURES

• The official adaptation of the cult board game, faithfully developed with the help of Jacob Fryxelius, author of the boardgame.

• Turn-based strategy: choose a specialized corporation, build facilities, research innovative technologies and manage your resources productions

• Life on Mars? Improve the conditions on the Red Planet by warming it up to melt the ice and create oceans, planting oxygen-producing flora and introducing both small and big animals.

• Corporation rivalry: it’s a nice forest you’ve planted there – wouldn’t it be a shame if a large asteroid was steered to crash right on it? Develop Projects that will slow down your opponents!

• Mars for all: play solo or with up to 5 players in multiplayer games against local or online opponents, humans or AI.

• Game variant: Try the Corporate Era rules, for a more complex game. This variant adds new cards, including 2 new corporations, and focuses on economy and technology. These are projects that do not contribute directly to terraf

Why we recommend it

Recommended for players who enjoy medium-heavy board games, engine building, resource conversion and indirect interaction and can read one of the supported languages. Beginners should disable Corporate Era, finish a short standard-corporation game and learn production versus stock, Terraform Rating versus VP, and generations versus actions before adding expansions. Record room ID, players and DLC mix before online play. Safe order: backup; 2.11.1.869/SHA-256; Rosetta/display check; tutorial/temporary match; production/tiles; reload; online version check; long match.

Pros

  • The adaptation preserves the board game’s economic core: project cards, six production tracks, corporation powers, adjacency rewards, milestones and awards all interact. Temperature, oxygen and oceans are shared objectives but also tools for tempo and scoring, while Corporate Era adds broader economic and technology lines. It supports solo, AI and local/online play for up to five, turn notifications, Remote Play Together and Family Sharing, rewarding deliberate asynchronous play. Development involved board-game author Jacob Fryxelius.

Cons

  • There is no official Chinese, Japanese or Korean interface, despite a large card pool with dense text and icon rules. Long multiplayer matches magnify server, account, version and disconnect friction, and known issues can affect complex expansion combinations. The Mac specification is old and explicitly Intel-only; native Apple-silicon support is not promised. Automation is convenient, but it hides some resource and rule processing that is visible on the physical table, so newcomers may see an outcome without understanding its cause.

Installation steps

  1. This page covers Terraforming Mars 2.11.1.869. Official Mac minimums are OS X Mountain Lion, Intel Core i5, 2 GB RAM, Intel HD 4000, 337 MB storage and broadband; the channel separately specifies macOS 10.13+, so use the stricter requirement. Back up solo, multiplayer and Corporate Era saves and record the installer SHA-256. In a temporary match, validate corporation choice, project cards, production, city/greenery/ocean placement, temperature/oxygen, milestones, turn reload and the online lobby. Official interfaces are English, French, Italian, German, Spanish and Swedish only; these five localized notes do not localize the game.

Uninstallation steps

  1. Before uninstalling, finish the current action and wait for server turn confirmation; never force-quit during card resolution, tile placement, plant conversion, final scoring or online sync. Back up local saves, identifiers for active online games, settings and enabled-expansion combinations, recording 2.11.1.869, SHA-256, Mac/OS and time. After reinstalling, compare local/server state and use a copy to complete one production generation, place a tile and quit/reload. Confirm version validation before resuming a long online match.

Common errors and fixes

  1. For launch failure, apply the stricter macOS 10.13+, 64-bit, 2 GB RAM and storage checks, verify files/permissions and retry once. Official requirements list only Intel Core i5/HD 4000 and do not promise native Apple silicon; M1/M2/M3/M4 operation normally relies on Rosetta 2, so update Rosetta, disable overlays and test windowed after a black screen. Online play requires an Asmodee.net account. Patch 2.11.1 targets broken Resume games/version loops, inability to inspect your state while waiting, false No active game labels, non-scrolling Tags and AI receiving resources without a host card. Align version and DLC/variant and retain the room ID. Known limits include Robinson Industries, unavailable/space-key lobby chat and a Hellas ocean issue.

What changed in this version

  1. The channel build is 2.11.1.869 (official patch identifier 2.11.1.3281/869). Generalized Generous Host removes the need to be friends with the host or own the DLC used by that room. It repairs version checking that produced several online failures, including broken games in Resume; restores inspection of your own state while waiting; fixes Tags scrolling, AI receiving resources without a suitable host card and false No active game labels in Join game. Validate DLC joining, Resume, waiting-state inspection, Tags and AI card resources.
