Editor-checked details
Recommended for Sonic fans who want short item races, controllers and friend/online challenges, but Mac users must first verify that the official store still delivers it to their device; an old minimum-system label is not a guarantee. Pick a stable first character and practice drift before the bend → hold a Wisp → release Team Ability on a straight in single player, then use Time Trial to separate route skill from item variance. Verify Game Center profile and controller before online play, and read Community Challenge end times. Safe order: confirm current Apple platform availability; back up account/progress; 2.13.1/SHA-256; tutorial; controller; Game Center/multiplayer. Preserve the existing installation if Mac entitlement cannot be confirmed.
Pros
- It compresses team racing into accessible short sessions. Fifteen characters bring different advantages and Team Abilities, 15 tracks span five zones, and 15 Wisps provide speed, defense and disruption. Single player, friend races and worldwide multiplayer cover different intensity, while Time Trial, leaderboards, medals, profiles, car parts and Community Challenges create ongoing goals. Drift and items keep trailing racers involved, and Sonic’s color, music and recognizable cast fit casual group play. PlayStation, Xbox and MFi controllers plus Game Center are officially supported. All five target languages are official. Apple Arcade has no ads or in-app purchases.
Cons
- The largest Mac risk is platform status, not performance: Apple’s current page no longer lists Mac, and an old channel label cannot prove Intel or Apple Silicon remains supported. Multiplayer, leaderboards, Community Challenges, rewards and profiles depend heavily on Game Center, an Apple Arcade account and services, limiting offline value and long-term preservation. Fifteen base tracks become repetitive, and Wisps/comeback mechanics can dilute skill with item variance. Friend/player modes depend on device and current platform build. Character/part unlocks follow live-event cadence, so new players may miss timed rewards. The 2.13.1 notes are generic and cannot confirm whether a specific black-screen or network fault was fixed.
Installation steps
- This page covers Sonic Racing 2.13.1. The channel label says Intel 64-bit and macOS 10.15.5+, but Apple’s current official page—even with Mac selected—lists only iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Vision, with no Mac compatibility requirement. Intel and M1/M2/M3/M4 therefore cannot be treated as currently guaranteed. Back up Game Center/Apple Arcade progress, characters and car parts, medals, player profile, challenges, leaderboards, controls and graphics, then record 2.13.1/SHA-256. If the build launches, first validate tutorial acceleration, drift, Wisp, Team Ability, post-race rewards and saving in single player, then connect a supported PlayStation, Xbox or MFi controller. Online play also requires matching account, Game Center and version.
Uninstallation steps
- Before uninstalling, finish the race and return to the main menu, then wait for rewards, challenge progress, leaderboards and Game Center synchronization. Never force-quit during matchmaking, track loading, results or profile/car-part writes. Record character unlocks, medals, car parts, banner/frame, Community Challenges, Time Trial, controls and 2.13.1/SHA-256, and verify the Apple account. After reinstalling or changing device, sign into that same account and validate tutorial/single player, rewards and cloud progress before multiplayer. If the official store no longer offers the item to Mac, do not remove the only working installation and local data without a complete backup.
Common errors and fixes
- If Mac installation is unavailable or marked incompatible, check the current App Store platform list first; Apple no longer lists Mac, so an old macOS 10.15.5 label is not a fix. For black screen, quit, restart the device, verify 2.13.1 and free space, and enter without extra controllers. Preserve data if it persists—Rosetta or changing architecture is not guaranteed. For controller failure, confirm it in Bluetooth/USB and reconnect at the main menu. PlayStation, Xbox and MFi are supported, not every third-party mapper. Multiplayer failure calls for Game Center login, network, date/region, version and service status checks; working single player does not prove servers. Drift before the turn and hold direction; for Wisp/Team Ability inspect the slot and trigger. Stop play if progress vanishes to avoid overwriting cloud data.
What changed in this version
- Apple’s official history labels 2.13.1 (March 23) only as “Bug fixes and refinements,” with no itemized fixes, so none are invented. The directly preceding 2.13.0 content—still not above the site build—includes player profiles, customizable banner backgrounds/frames, achievement medals, two character variants, and Grand Prix and Drift Rush Community Challenges. These are documented as 2.13-line context, not falsely claimed as new in 2.13.1. Acceptance covers displayed 2.13.1, profile/medals, single-player race, drift/Wisp/Team Ability, rewards, controller, Game Center and multiplayer menu.
