Description
Hoop Land is a 2D hoops sim inspired by the greatest retro basketball games of the past. Play, spectate, or simulate each game and experience the ultimate basketball sandbox where college and professional leagues are seamlessly integrated into every season.
DEEP RETRO GAMEPLAY
Single and local multiplayer game options give you complete control of the action with ankle breakers, spin moves, step backs, alley-oops, chase down blocks, and more. Every shot is determined by true 3D rim and ball physics resulting in dynamic and unpredictable moments.
BUILD YOUR LEGACY
Create your own player in Career Mode and begin your path to greatness as a young prospect fresh out of high school. Choose a college, build teammate relationships, declare for the draft, and earn awards and accolades on your way to becoming the greatest player of all time.
LEAD A DYNASTY
Become the manager of a struggling team and turn them into contenders in Franchise Mode. Scout for college prospects, make draft selections, develop your rookies into stars, sign free agents, trade away disgruntled players, and hang as many championship banners as possible.
BE THE COMMISSIONER
Take full control of the league from player trades to expansion teams in Commissioner Mode. Enable or disable advanced settings such as CPU roster changes and injuries, choose award winners, and watch your league evolve over an endless amount of seasons.
FULL CUSTOMIZATION
Customize every aspect of both college and pro leagues from team names, uniform colors, court designs, rosters, coaches, and awards. Import or share your custom leagues with the Hoop Land community and load them into any season mode for infinite replay-ability.

Editor-checked details
Recommended if you want both playable retro basketball and a long college-to-pro league. Finish one Exhibition game testing shooting, inbounding, off-ball assist and controllers; then run a short season through standings, playoffs, draft and reload before importing a custom league. Intel needs Mojave/Metal; Apple silicon needs Big Sur/M1. 4 GB starts it, 8 GB is more comfortable for long seasons. Safe order: back up both folders; 1.09.75/SHA-256; new-save game; short simulation; import main league. Compare Basketball GM for pure management or NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 for arcade action.
Pros
- Retro 2D control combines with 3D rim/ball physics: play ankle breakers, step-backs, alley-oops and chase-down blocks, spectate or simulate. Career links high school, college, relationships, draft and pro awards. Franchise covers scouting, draft, development, signing and trades; Commissioner controls expansion, injuries, awards and rules. College and pro leagues share a continuous talent ecosystem. Teams, uniforms, courts, rosters, coaches and awards are customizable, with Workshop, Cloud, local PvP/co-op and Remote Play Together.
Cons
- Pixel art hides substantial complexity in schedules, draft, contracts, potential, morale, trades and league settings. True rim physics creates unpredictable bounces and takes adjustment in timing/assists. Local multiplayer relies on controller mapping and shared-screen space, not standalone online matchmaking. Early Access can still change modes/controllers, so long seasons/custom leagues need backups. Only English interface/audio is official; these editorial translations are not in-game language support. Save-folder relocation can look like lost progress. 4 GB is a floor; large custom leagues and long simulations merit more memory/backups.
Installation steps
- This page covers Hoop Land 1.09.75. Official Mac minimum splits by architecture: Intel needs macOS 10.14+, 64-bit x64/SSE2 and a Metal-capable Intel/AMD GPU; Apple silicon needs macOS 11+, M1 or newer. Both require 4 GB RAM and 2 GB storage. Reserve 5 GB. Back up Steam Cloud, Career, Franchise, Commissioner, college/pro leagues, player/team/court customization and imported leagues; record 1.09.75/SHA-256. On a new save test shooting, rim physics, inbounding, play icons, local multiplayer, season simulation and save/reload before importing the main league. Steam lists English interface/audio only; these five editorial languages do not imply built-in translations.
Uninstallation steps
- Before uninstalling, finish the game, return to the mode menu and wait for autosave/Steam Cloud. Separately back up Career, Franchise, Commissioner, Exhibition settings, custom leagues/rosters/courts and shared files; record season year, playoff phase, picks, injuries and 1.09.75/SHA-256. Check both Mac paths: old `/Users/name/Library/Application Support/com.koalitygame.hoopland/` and new `/Users/name/Library/Application Support/Koality Game/Hoop Land/`; preserve both. After reinstalling, copy rather than move, finish one test game and one simulation, then restore the main save.
Common errors and fixes
- If saves vanish after update, do not create a same-name save. Quit, copy all contents from the old folder to the new folder, then relaunch. Faint offensive icons, post-inbound teleporting, out-of-bounds reception teleporting, assisted receivers running away, missing dunk rim animation and unintended Exhibition lineup optimization are 1.09.75 targets—verify the version. Expansion/standings team sorting also requires 1.09.75. For controllers, check Steam Input and local-player assignment. Keep a separate save before long simulations. For black screen, verify Metal, OS floor and SHA-256.
What changed in this version
- Official 1.09.75 fixes offensive play icons fading before players are set; teleporting after inbounding or receiving from out of bounds; off-ball-assisted receivers running away; missing rim animation on dunks; and unintended Exhibition lineup optimization. Commissioner fixes expansion-team sorting and division sorting after standings. All Season Modes remove a headband from referee selection. The Custom League Editor fixes a pixel in Hair 126, secondary accessory on the suit screen and league-name placeholder text. The developer also documents possible Mac save-folder relocation. Later-version content is excluded.
