Description
On the continent of Pywel, the rival factions of Pailune maintained a tense balance. At Kliff’s side stood his steadfast Greymane comrades, but a devastating ambush in the deep of night by their sworn enemies the Black Bears leaves members of the Greymanes dead or scattered across the continent.
Kliff—having lost his family in all but name—is determined to reunite with the survivors and rebuild the faction.
But on a journey where alliances are forged, dangers abound, and mysterious factions are uncovered, Kliff will meet those who seek to upend the very order of the continent and face a mission unlike any he has ever known.
Welcome to Pywel.
Here you’ll find stretches of natural beauty and wilderness—from green plains and woods to arid deserts and rugged mountains—alongside bustling cities and quiet hamlets inhabited by residents from all walks of life.
Between destinations, you will come across landmarks, ancient ruins, hidden treasures, and other points of interest that will draw your curisoity to wander. Your journey will also inevitably take you skyward to the mysterious realm known as the Abyss, where a mystical imbalance endangering the world must be restored.
The world is yours to explore as you will and there are many paths for you to uncover.
Experience the continent’s stories and tales through quests, encounters, challenges, and battles. Roam the lands on various mounts from horses to even a dragon and mechs, and scale cliffsides and walls which you can leap from to glide.
The story of Crimson Desert centers on Kliff. But as his tale unfolds, 2 new playable characters—Oongka and Damiane—will come to join your journey. As these characters become available, you will be able to freely explore Pywel and undertake many quests outside the main story with them.
Each character has their own combat style, as well as unique skills and weapons, allowing you to experience the world and its battles in different ways.
On the unforgiving battlefields of Crims
Editor-checked details
Recommended for players with at least 16 GB and preferably M2 Pro/M3/M4-class or faster Apple silicon who want open-world action, exploration and a long story. Do not judge by “M1 installable” alone; use the 150-GB and official performance tiers. Back up saves; record 1.14.00/platform/account; start with “For this Mac”; test 30 minutes in the prologue and open area; tune resolution/frame cap/MetalFX one item at a time; observe thermals/memory; verify save/sleep; test cross-save with a non-primary slot; then begin the main campaign. Compare The Witcher 3 for RPG choices, Elden Ring for harder action (after checking Mac support), or Death Stranding Director’s Cut for a different native open-world experience. Prioritise real Mac support, chip tier, storage and controller requirements.
Pros
- Its Pywel open world combines story, exploration, climbing/gliding, mounts, combat, quests and multiple playable characters; Kliff, Oongka and Damiane provide different weapons, skills and rhythms. The native Apple-silicon build uses the Metal path and “For this Mac” lowers first-run tuning. Version 1.14.00 cross-save carries progress among supported platforms, useful for switching between Mac and console/PC. Quest, action, localisation, mount and audio fixes improve long-session continuity.
Cons
- Hardware demands are high: although the store permits M1+, Pearl Abyss’s minimum performance tier is M2 Pro/M3/M4, 16 GB and 150 GB; base M1/M2 or 8-GB systems may launch without stable target quality/frame rate. The 150-GB install, patches and shader cache are substantial, and laptops face thermal/fan/power limits. Cross-save also introduces wrong-direction sync or old-device overwrite risk. A large open world can retain quest, collision, NPC and audio defects, and platform patch timing may vary. MetalFX and graphics behaviour need per-chip/macOS testing, with no later fixes attributed to 1.14.00. Action controls and large battles may not suit players seeking low-input narrative play.
Installation steps
- The site build is Crimson Desert 1.14.00. The Mac App Store install gate is Apple M1 or later with macOS 15+, but Pearl Abyss’s performance table lists the minimum “For this Mac” target as M2 Pro/M3/M4, 16 GB RAM and 150 GB storage; recommended is M3 Pro/M4 Pro/M5, 16 GB and 150 GB. Being installable on M1 does not mean it meets the performance baseline; Intel Macs are unsupported. Update to a supported macOS, reserve at least 150 GB plus patch/cache headroom, connect power and disable Low Power Mode. Back up local saves/settings and record platform, game 1.14.00, DLC/rewards, account region and installer SHA-256. First use the “For this Mac” preset with overlays off and a new save; test shader compilation, prologue, combat, climb/glide, mounts/high-speed motion, character switching, audio, save/load and sleep/wake. Then change resolution, frame cap, MetalFX, quality and motion blur one setting at a time. Cross-save requires linking supported platform accounts to a Pearl Abyss account; copy local saves, verify upload/download direction, timestamps and slots, and round-trip a non-primary save first.
Uninstallation steps
- Quit and let platform/cross-save synchronization settle, but never treat cloud as the only copy. Preserve local saves, configuration, screenshots, crash logs and account-link information. For critical saves record Crimson Desert 1.14.00, platform, character/quest progress, cross-save slot, last-sync time and SHA-256. Open a copied save offline, save and reload it; if using cross-save, verify the same non-primary save downloads with correct progress on a second platform. Disable automatic updates and unlink platforms no longer used so an old device cannot upload over newer progress. Ensure no download/repair/shader-cache task is active before removal. Game files may be removed, but decide separately about save/config folders; rename them for a clean reinstall instead of deleting the sole copy. Uninstalling does not revoke the Pearl Abyss account, platform purchase, cloud slots or server rewards. Retain the 1.14.00 source/version and rollback saves until a reinstall or replacement passes load, quest, combat, fast travel and save.
Common errors and fixes
- For install/space failures, confirm Apple silicon and macOS 15+, and reserve beyond the real 150 GB baseline for patches; free space and restart the store/client. For launch or shader-stage crashes, verify files, disable overlays/recording, restart the Mac and use “For this Mac”; retain the crash report and record chip, macOS, settings and repro point. For low FPS/heat, connect power, disable Low Power and reduce resolution/frame cap/shadows/crowds one setting at a time; base M1/M2 systems may fall below the performance target. If MetalFX freezes or corrupts visuals in 1.14.00, disable it and compare native/other scaling; do not claim a later fix. For cross-save overwrite/desync, stop playing on all devices, copy local saves and verify Pearl Abyss account, linked platforms, slot, timestamp and upload/download direction using a non-primary save. “A Dwarf’s Concern,” pet-bed control loss, Aerial Force Palm interruption, wooden-gate NPC blockage and Praevus/Ator audio issues are 1.14.00 fixes; confirm the actual build and retry from a safe pre-fix save.
What changed in this version
- Crimson Desert 1.14.00 released on 2026-07-16. It adds cross-save across linked PlayStation, Xbox, Steam and Epic Games Store accounts; both Steam Mac and Mac App Store were listed as available at release. Fixes cover the blocked “A Dwarf’s Concern” quest, control loss when a pet jumps on a bed, Damiane Skystep input consistency, Aerial Force Palm interruption during free-fall, localisation, high-speed mount motion, missing audio after Praevus, lingering Ator’s Orb audio and NPCs blocked by open wooden gates. No post-1.14.00 fixes are attributed.
