Recommended for fans of observation, reading and deduction in Return of the Obra Dinn or The Case of the Golden Idol who want a more direct crime-scene structure. Survey the entire scene, then read letters and the notebook before committing to a reconstruction; early conclusions can miss relationships. Safe check: backup, 1.0.4/SHA-256, OS/Steam client, new save, clues, documents, notebook, reconstruction, windowed mode and Cloud reload.

Its 1970s Hollywood setting and conflicts among actors, writers and producers give apparently separate murders an ongoing mystery. Version 1.0.4 materially improves localization, document readability, the notebook and windowed play. Single-player, achievements, Steam Cloud and Family Sharing suit case-by-case sessions.
Cons
- The experience depends on reading and careful comparison, so action-focused players may find it slow. Freeze-frame murder scenes and drug references are not for everyone. There is no full audio and no Traditional Chinese. The official game table still says macOS 10.14 while the practical Steam-client baseline is newer, which can confuse buyers. M2/M3/M4 are not individually listed and need validation.
Installation steps
- This page covers channel version 1.0.4. Before installation, allow at least 4 GB RAM and sufficient storage. The official Mac minimum lists macOS 10.14, an Intel Core i5 or Apple M1; because the Steam client no longer supports macOS 10.14, Steam launches require a newer currently supported macOS. Back up saves and record the installer SHA-256. With a new profile, test the menu, case loading, crime-scene inspection, clue interaction, document close-ups, notebook, reconstruction and save/reload. Validate display, input and sustained play separately on M2/M3/M4.
Uninstallation steps
- Before uninstalling, return to the main menu and wait for the case, notebook and Steam Cloud writes to finish; do not force-quit during a scene transition, document view or save indicator. Back up saves, settings, version 1.0.4 and SHA-256. Remove user data only after confirming a recoverable local or Cloud copy. After reinstalling, use a copy to collect a clue, update the notebook, make a deduction and save/reload before restoring long-term progress.
Common errors and fixes
- For launch failures, check RAM, macOS, file integrity and permissions; the game listing of 10.14 does not mean the current Steam client still supports 10.14. Intel and M1 are both official minimum targets. On M2/M3/M4, retry once with overlays disabled and default display settings if black screens or input problems occur. Blurry documents should use the reworked 1.0.4 close-up view; notebook layout issues likewise require checking the build and files. Reset display settings for windowed-mode trouble. English, Simplified Chinese, Japanese and Korean have interface/subtitles but no full audio; Traditional Chinese is not supported. Mature content includes freeze-frame murder scenes and drug references.

- Official 1.0.4 changes: a major localization overhaul for German, Russian, French, Japanese, Korean and Simplified Chinese; a sharper reworked close-up view for letters and documents; text and grammar corrections across several cases; fixes for notebook display glitches; and improved windowed-mode behavior. The patch applies to the macOS depot. No version above the channel build is disclosed here.
