Editor-checked details
Recommended for players who want route planning on real cities plus fleet, depot and staff management. Macs matching the official Intel/Radeon tier should favor 16 GB and SSD; run a small city/few routes for several game days before scaling. Apple Silicon users should first test map generation, continuous dispatch and save/load in a clean company before importing a long save. Workflow: dual backup; record 2.5.0/SHA-256; mod-free map/service test; import company; match DLC; restore Workshop in batches. Compare Cities: Skylines for macro transit planning or Bus Simulator 18 for hands-on driving.
Pros
- Real OpenStreetMap data lets players design services in their hometown or worldwide cities with meaningful POIs and distances. Depot layout spans parking, offices, repair, washing and customer service; bus purchasing, spares, staff, training, duties, fares and reviews create a coherent operating chain. More than 20 buses, liveries and Workshop add customization. Players can reproduce a real network or redesign underserved areas, suiting transport-data and optimization fans.
Cons
- Maps/POIs depend on online OpenStreetMap data, so blocked access or damaged cache affects setup. Large cities, dense routes and fleets increase simulation/render load; 8 GB is only a floor. Late operations repeat roster, repair, cleaning, spares and complaint work. Workshop bus/livery quality, performance and compatibility vary, and DLC cannot be assumed in the base game. Mac specifications are Intel/Radeon-centric with no Apple Silicon statement. Official UI is only English, German and French, creating a language barrier for Chinese, Japanese and Korean users.
Installation steps
- This page covers City Bus Manager 2.5.0. Official Mac minimum is macOS 11, Intel Core 2 Duo, 8 GB RAM, AMD Radeon Pro 560 with 4 GB VRAM and 5 GB storage; recommendation keeps that Intel/Radeon class but raises RAM to 16 GB and storage to 15 GB. No Apple Silicon tier is published. Reserve 20 GB. Back up Steam Cloud/local companies, routes, timetables, liveries, depot layouts, staff training, Workshop subscriptions and DLC state, and record SHA-256. First disable Workshop and use a new company to test map download, real-city routes, depot construction, dispatch, repair, washing, rosters and save/load; restore mods in batches. Official UI languages are English, German and French only.
Uninstallation steps
- Before uninstalling, return buses to depot or finish shifts, pause automatic dispatch and create a manual save. Back up cloud/local companies separately, map cache, routes/stops, duties, buses/liveries, spare parts, staff/training, finances/reviews, Workshop list and DLC. Label 2.5.0, date and SHA-256; preserve both cloud-conflict copies. After reinstalling, download one map and complete a service in a clean company before importing old data. Match DLC first, restore mods in batches and repair routes/vehicles only on a copy.
Common errors and fixes
- For blank maps/missing POIs, confirm access to OpenStreetMap data, test without VPN/filtering and rebuild map cache without overwriting the only company. For delays/passenger anomalies, inspect stop direction, closed route, travel time, capacity, frequency and staff breaks. A bus that will not depart may lack a valid bay/exit, qualified driver, repair state or duty. For low FPS, verify macOS 11, 8 GB and Radeon Pro 560 4 GB minimum, then reduce map scope, buses, pedestrians and building detail. Test missing Workshop liveries/buses on a mod-free copy. Apple Silicon requires a cautious trial because no M-series tier is official.
What changed in this version
- The site version is 2.5.0. Publicly indexed official material does not provide a complete itemized changelog mapped exactly to 2.5.0, so unrelated announcements or guesses are not presented as its changes. Verifiable scope includes worldwide OpenStreetMap maps/POIs, routes and timetables, depot construction, 20+ buses, repair/washing/spares, staff training, ticket service, passenger reviews, liveries and Steam Workshop; DLC must be separated by ownership. Validate the displayed 2.5.0 build, old-company loading, map data, dispatch and Workshop behavior after installation.
